Skipping a step?[edit]

New editors have trouble picking things up as they go, this much is certain. There exist IRC channels where volunteers can help. I personally think this is a clunky solution at best; I've only used IRC two or three times in my life, and most people don't even know what it is. As I understand it, the proposed improvement is to use a similar chat environment but with two key differences: 1) The chat would be built into the Wikimedia interface directly rather than sending users to an IRC client. 2) The chat would be staffed by a helper bot which, in order to be effective, would need to be several orders of magnitude more advanced than the most state-of-the-art conversation bot that currently exists.

I am of the opinion that step (1) would be both sufficient and more realistic for achieving the desired outcome. --Cryptic C62 (talk) 13:25, 18 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Good idea[edit]

This proposal is brilliant! I wish I could help, but I have no technical skills. In any case, it has my support. Pikolas (talk) 15:09, 9 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
