Grants talk:PEG/WM BE/WLM BeLux 2016/Interim

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Hi Romaine. Thank you for this detailed interim report. It sounds like overall WLM 2016 was a success! It's great to see you were able to reach or exceed your expectations in terms of number of photos submitted, participants, and attendees at the awards ceremony! Congrats on the adoption of Freedom of Panorama! That is a massive success! It's understandable that the press may not be as excited about an event that has been done a few times before. If there wasn't that much coverage, how were you able to get so many participants? Do you think there was one outreach approach that was particularly successful? Since most of the monuments in Brussels and Walloon have been covered, do you think you will continue to organize WLM in the future? If yes, how will you target underrepresented areas? We look forward to hearing how the editathon goes. Thanks again for all your work on the contest and this report. Cheers, Alex Wang (WMF) (talk) 21:58, 20 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Alex Wang (WMF), To answer your questions, it is basically to structurally work on building a network and keeping them informed. This sounds easier than it is. Basically it involves asking every person we speak with, in GLAMs, educational institutions, edit-a-thons, and more, if they would like to receive our newsletter. And our newsletter is really intended to bring news in a short format, and includes the announcement of activities. Besides that we also invited all the participants.
The current organiser team of Wiki Loves Monuments discussed the situation regarding the coverage of monuments, and we have a bit the impression that the time needed to organise Wiki Loves Monuments starts to become larger than the time it needs to make ourselves the same amount of photos. Therefore we thing that we will not organise Wiki Loves Monuments again, however other volunteers might think different about this and we noticed huge enthusiasm at the awards ceremony. We are currently looking for a different approach to get all the other monuments on photo, and are looking for the best suited format that gives the best results. We have not a clear idea yet, but we think of organising photo tours in the poorly covered regions.
Thank you for the approval. Romaine (talk) 22:54, 20 December 2016 (UTC)[reply]
