Hello Fpa1981, and thanks for your proposal to support editors and researchers access to high quality scientific publications. I'm reviewing this proposal on behalf of MCasoValdes (WMF) at her request. Unfortunately, we will not be able the fund the proposal for the following reasons:

  • While there appears to be some potential benefit for Wikimedia projects and communities as a result of this work, the project largely focuses on activities and improvements to external wikis. While we have funded work involving external wikis previously, other projects have had active volunteer communities to maintain and support their development. This does not appear to be the case for these wikis.
  • There is not a clear plan for community engagement or outreach with existing Wikimedia communities who could either support or make use of the resources made available by this project. Consequently, it is not clear who would use them based on the proposed activities.
  • The expected impact of these resources is unclear, as the evaluation plan does not contain any estimates or ways of gathering information to assess how people will use or apply these proposed resources.
  • There is not a clear plan to sustain this work beyond the funding period based on the need for need for virtual server service plans. When the service plan term ends, it suggests that these wikis and related services will rely on continual grant funding to maintain them.

We appreciate your proposal to improve Wikipedia content through improvements to these external wikis, but we are not able to support this approach to achieve these goals due to the above concerns. I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 04:21, 15 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]
