Questions and Discussion[edit]

List of Patra[edit]

Is there any list of Balinese pattern (patra) which you already has? If not, can you create ones so we knew also what kind of patra's you will collect. It is good if we have something to begin with rather starting from zero. Put also reference if any. Thanks Angayubagia (talk) 04:01, 14 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Angayubagia. Thank you for your question. We have already compiled a list of Balinese ornaments and grouped them by their type, which are Kekarangan (inspired by animals), Pepatran (inspired by plants), and Keketusan (which has a repeated pattern). You can find the list through this link. Our reference for the list is from this website, which was written by a lecturer from the Indonesian Institute of Art Denpasar. The writer of that website, Gung Jaya, is also involved in this project to help guide us in identifying Balinese ornaments. I have already had a meeting with him to discuss the proposal, and he is very enthusiastic about it. He even suggested that we document the different types of ornaments in some places that he believes have a lot of differences in ornament types in a single building. Review feedback[edit]

Hello Eka343, thanks for submitting this Rapid Fund request. We think that the project focus and change to document the ornaments of Bali are important. However, we are concerned about some aspects of the proposal and we would like to ask a few questions to clarify them. We also request some changes to the project in order to minimize costs and make the project open for other active contributors.

  • What is the importance for Wikimedia Projects to vectorize the ornaments? Could you please bring examples of pages of Wikimedia projects, where these ornaments will be useful? How will the produced content be used on Wikimedia projects? Requests:
    • Elaborate on the project need, bring some examples of how content will be used on Wikimedia projects. (question 7)
    • Explain why vectorizing the ornaments are important and how these vector graphics will be used on Wikimedia projects. (question 7)
  • We request that instead of organizing the photo walks with pre-selected members, you have an open call and engage some interested active Wikimedians in the photowalks. We think that the project should be open for other active community members outside of the pre-defined team. Active community members with some experience with documentation and their own cameras should be able to participate in the photowalks. We will be funding this proposal only if there is an open call of participation and if there is an attempt to engage other active contributors in the project. Request:
    • Update the project plan and introduce an open call for participation to diversify the participants. We will not accept a scenario where the same team members are traveling to all locations. (question 9)
  • It is not clear for us why the same 8 people should travel to the same locations and take photos of the same monuments. Our request is to divide the work, form smaller teams and travel to different locations. This way, you can decrease the project costs and avoid having duplicate photos. Request:
    • Update the project plan and budget according to the recommendation. Reduce the teams size to 2-4 and put down a plan for every group. (question 7, detailed and requested budgets)

We have sent the application back to you on Fluxx. You will receive an automated email with instructions. Please review your application on Fluxx and re-submit it by 6 December 2023. Our decision will be based on the updates provided. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 10:29, 29 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
