The First of Its Kind in Taraba State[edit]

I had the pleasure of meeting the applicant, Yahuzaishat, during the Wikipedia Awareness in Akko event, where he emerged as the best participant, showcasing his dedication and enthusiasm for Wikimedia projects. Furthermore, Yahuzaishat's contributions extended beyond being a participant, as he also took on the role of a facilitator during the Wikimedia Awareness at Pen Resource University. His active involvement and commitment to promoting Wikimedia initiatives make him a valuable asset to this project.

Wikimedia Meta-Wiki plays a pivotal role in facilitating projects like "Wikimedia Awareness in Taraba State." This ambitious proposal, spearheaded by Yahuzaishat, is commendable for its commitment to bridging the knowledge gap on Wikimedia platforms in Taraba State, Nigeria. With a well-structured plan, including in-person workshops, online training, and edit-a-thons, it is poised to create a substantial impact. Engaging diverse youths and students, particularly from underrepresented ethnic and cultural backgrounds, aligns perfectly with the Movement Strategy 2030 recommendations. The proposed metrics, focusing on participants, editors, content contributions, and user satisfaction, provide a clear framework for evaluation. Overall, this project holds great promise in improving the user experience, enhancing content equity, and expanding Wikimedia's reach in Taraba State. It deserves our endorsement and support. Not Funded[edit]

Hello @Yahuzaishat thank you for applying for the rapid fund grant. We reviewed your grant application and decided to not fund your application at this time. Here is some feedback that the team might incorporate into any future applications to strengthen the application, to make it more compelling and feasible.

Well done to the team for this initiative. The proposal has outlined the project's goals, clearly. The focus on creating awareness, training new editors, and fostering a sustainable Wikimedia community in Tarawa state, is a well-thought-out initiative. Additionally, it is good to see that the proposal describes a detailed plan for engaging participants, both before and after the activities, using online forms, WhatsApp groups, and other communication channels. This approach ensures ongoing support and involvement, increasing the likelihood of sustained contributions. This is also commendable.

  • While the overall activities are outlined, a more detailed project plan with specific timelines, milestones, and a breakdown of activities will improve the proposal immensely. A structured timeline will not only make the project plan easier to understand, but it will help ensure that activities are conducted in a systematic manner.
  • The projects planned activities, the metrics and the budget are not aligned. For instance the metrics include uploads to commons, yet the project plan does not include activities that demonstrate how commons will be populated through this project. Additionally, the project budget plan mentions three day in-person activities, yet the budget does not reflect this.
  • In addition to the project metrics you have outlined, consider including methods for assessing participants' learning outcomes, the quality and quantity of contributions, and the overall community engagement generated by the project. Quantity is good, but the quality is equally important.
  • While the team composition is mentioned, it could be beneficial to diversify facilitators by including individuals from different backgrounds or experiences. Including more experienced facilitators on the team can help ensure that the training sessions are rich. This is because they can offer varied perspectives, enhancing the overall learning experience for participants.
