Grants talk:Project/Rapid/African Day 2022 Celebration

Not funded[edit]

Hi Profayobami, thank you for submitting your grant application. We appreciate your interest in contributing to the mission of the Wikimedia Movement. After a thorough review of your application, we have decided to not fund your Rapid Fund request. Here's my feedback and what we recommend you to improve for your next grants:

  • The project focus is significant. I'm glad to learn that you plan to address the content gap through translating articles into different African languages.
  • However, the activities to achieve these goals are not clear. I don't think that with 2 local events you can meet the goals described in the proposal.
  • You are required to notify about this project and discuss it with all language communities involved in advance. Have you discussed this proposal with relevant communities and affiliates? My recommendation is to discuss the proposal with all target communities in the future.
  • You mentioned that you would aim at involving different African communities but your plan is to organize 2 local in-person events. How do you hope to involve all these community members who are from different regions and countries in Africa? I'd recommend perhaps an online format of the project when you can reach out and involve different communities in different countries and regions.
  • For a similar event, I would like to see that you have team members from all or most of the target communities. My recommendation would be to diversify the organizing team if you plan to work with diverse communities.

Thanks again for your work for the movement. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 12:50, 29 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello DSaroyan (WMF),

Thank you for your time in reviewing this grant request.

I am happy you identified the need for this project to be significant.

It's my first application and it's an idea I optimistically look forward to seeing it come to reality. Rejecting this equals killing a dream towards contributing my own quota to Africa as a young African.

First, the physical two events would be held in Lagos, Nigeria where we would include Nigerian local language representatives in the year celebration while on the other hand, Africans who wish to participate in the celebration can join via Zoom. Sincere, apologies that this wasn't explained in the application earlier. It's indeed my fault and I didn't see it in this light.

Following all you stated, I would like to go on with organizing for Nigerian local languages, then in the coming year there will be inclusive African languages beyond West Africa.

The African day is celebrated 25th of May. Prolonging this project to another time of the year would not be greatly appreciated.

I would greatly appreciate if this application can be reconsidered for funding with the permission to change make the activities clearer as it should.

Thank you in advance of your favourable response.

Best regards,
