Comments from WMF[edit]

Hello, Agbalagba; thank you again for submitting this rapid grant request. We have two questions for you:

  1. Where is the translation-athon planned to happen? Are there Wikimedians active in this city/region? Can you please link to their accounts?
The translation-athon is planned to happen in Downtown Hotel in Lagos. Yes, there are Wikimedians in Lagos They include:
  1. Who would be the two facilitators from Lagos? Can you please link to their accounts?

MMontes (WMF), I and User:Adefanike are the two facilitators traveling from outside Lagos. Thank you for your prompt response. Reagrds. Agbalagba TC 18:09, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Grant request declined[edit]

Agbalagba, thank you for addressing our comments and for all the work you do for the Wiki movement. As the Rapid Grants program evolves (more information will be shared in the guidelines that will be announced to the community in the following weeks), we have stopped prioritizing grants with travel components -- especially when there are robust communities that already undertake the work locally. Looking into the contribution histories of the different participants in Lagos, all of them are active on Yoruba wiki and we deem that external facilitators become redundant. At the same time, this initiative, whereas endorsed by them, does not come from local leadership. We look forward to otherwise supporting your local work. Regards, MMontes (WMF) (talk) 18:20, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]

MMontes (WMF) If you deemed it unnecessary to invite participants from outside Lagos, that's fine and we could have the Lagos Wikipedians to facilitate the workshop. I do not think this should automatically result in this request declined. This is a project that focus on recruiting volunteers for Yoruba Wikipedia. I also do not understand what you meant by "At the same time, this initiative, whereas endorsed by them, does not come from local leadership." This is an individual grant request not by a group with leadership. Agbalagba TC 19:36, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Agbalagba, we will leave this grant request marked as not funded. If local Wikimedians are interested in pursuing this initiative and they have your permission, we look forward to seeing their request in the next period of submissions. MMontes (WMF) (talk) 20:09, 7 June 2019 (UTC)[reply]
