Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Airplaneman/Sulzer Regional Library Edit-a-thon in Chicago March 2017/Report

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Hi User:Airplaneman. Thank you for your work on this project!.

We have a few remaining questions/comments and look forward to hearing your response:

  1. What methods did you employ to attract attendees? Was social media involved at all?
  2. You have mentioned you’re interested in reallocating your remaining funds of $48.72. Please review this page if you plan to reallocate to another grant or under this one, otherwise please send back the remaining funds at your earliest convenience. We will be able to accept your report after we receive your request.

Thank you again for all your work. Best, --SMalik (WMF) (talk)

Hi User:Airplaneman. I have accepted your report, thank you again for all your work. Please respond to my prior questions and please note that although your report has been accepted, you will not be eligible for any further grants until you have reallocated or returned your remaining funds. Warm Regards,--SMalik (WMF) (talk) 00:12, 12 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]

User:SMalik (WMF), thank you for reviewing the report and for your feedback. I just wanted to let you know I've read the content on this page. I will follow up on the two remaining queries in the next week. Thank you, Airplaneman 04:11, 27 May 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi there, @Airplaneman: I'm following-up on SMalik (WMF)'s question regarding the remaining funds from this event. Please let us know if you have decided how to reallocate them. Best, Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 23:03, 20 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Reallocation of remaining grant funds[edit]

@MJue (WMF) and SMalik (WMF): Apologies for my tardy response. We are on the cusp of having an official user group for Chicago Wikimedians (just need to sign a few things). We are in talks with the soon-to-open Ace Hotel in Chicago to host an event for Wikipedia day on January 14, 2018. The remaining $48.72 will go wholly towards food expenses for that one-day event, which aims to celebrate Wikipedia's 17th birthday and provide a venue for both seasoned and new project volunteers to come together. Airplaneman 00:47, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Addendum: We did not employ social media to attract attendees. In the future, once the Wikimedians of Chicago User Group is established, we may use platforms such as Facebook to gather people who are in the area. We used a geonotice and talk page messages on the English Wikipedia to get the word out. Airplaneman 03:17, 29 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Airplaneman: thank you for the update, and best of luck on securing the User Group! We would like you to send any remaining receipts for us to document the remaining amount after this event. Moving forward, once the Wikimedians of Chicago UG has been established, we also recommend creating a separate, multi-user account shared among at least two of your members that is dedicated to the group's funds. If you have any further questions about this, you are always welcome to contact us at grantsadmin at wikimedia dot org. We're happy to accept this report as complete. Thank you for engaging us through the reporting process, and for your work for the movement! Cheers, Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 21:52, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@MJue (WMF):As we haven't organized another event within a reasonable time of the reallocation of these funds, I've returned them. Cheers, Airplaneman 19:40, 2 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
