Comments from DSaroyan (WMF)[edit]

Hi Akin ojonij, thanks again for submitting this Rapid Grant proposal. We are excited about the activities you are planning to carry out at the Nigerian Institute of Journalism. I have reviewed it and have the following questions and requests:

  • Please extend the grant end date to also include all days when you plan to make the proposed expenses.
Done
  • How will you reach out and engage the students?
I have gotten the email addresses and phone numbers of all the freshers of the institution, through its admin. department. And I have gotten the consent of 25 students that will participate in the training. I, therefore, plan to create a Whatsapp or Telegram platform, once the grant is approved to facilitate communication among the group.

Budget:

  • Are you going to purchase any of these equipment? If yes, please remove the corresponding cost from your budget because we currently do not fund equipment purchase. You may consider renting the equipment instead of purchasing them:
    • Alternative Power (should in case there is disruption in energy supply)- 40.54x2= 81.08 USD
    • Internet modem-67.76 USD
    • Public Address System: 40.54x2=81.08 USD
Apart from the Internet modem, all the cost highlighted above are for hiring purposes, The only means of having internet services during the training is to buy a mini-modem The modem will be dedicated for subsequent training of the club. Subsequently, internet subscriptions will be bought on the modem.
Photography service is key to reporting the outcomes of the project. Kindly note that we will need a photographer to take shots of activities during the event. Instead of compensating the photographers in cash, I am planning to convert the said sum into a gift. Please let me know if that makes sense.
  • Internet Stipend for Students ( 25X 8.10)= 202.50 - What will include this cost? Please confirm that you will not give cash money to students. Otherwise, I’ll have to request to remove this expense too since we don’t allow stipends and cash prizes. Please consider buying the internet data/bundles yourself before offering them to participants.
Previously, we have identified that one of the reasons that many students of the institution do not continue editing Wikipedia was due to the affordability of internet service. We, therefore, felt the provision of internet bundles would serve as motivation to many of the students after the training. Also, we re-affirm that we wouldn't give cash to anyone .

Looking forward to your responses. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 11:55, 25 March 2021 (UTC).[reply]

Thank you, @DSaroyan (WMF):, for your comment and i hope , i've been able to do justice to all your questions--Akin ojonij (talk) 10:20, 26 March 2021 (UTC).[reply]
Hi Akin ojonij, thanks for your response. I'll make an exception for the Internet modem, but unfortunately, I cannot allow any compensation for the photographer, even if it is a gift. So please remove that prize from your budget. As an alternative, you may want to rent a photo camera and give it to a volunteer to take some photos. Please update the total requested budget once you make this change. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 10:54, 26 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi DSaroyan (WMF), thank you for your reply. I have corrected the grant and the budget to reflect the rentage of the camera for two days.Akin ojonij (talk) 05:29, 29 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Funded[edit]

Hello Akin ojonij, thank you for your response and work on this grant proposal. We are happy to approve the grant request and support your project! Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 06:42, 31 March 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Request for extension[edit]

Dear DSaroyan (WMF)

Greetings,

I write to seek an extension of the grant completion date for an additional one month. We observed that the earlier scheduled date of the training clashed with the academic programs of the school. We were therefore asked to post the training. In light of the above, our training is expected to resume and ends in June. --Akin ojonij (talk) 09:56, 15 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
