Add topicComments from WMF
[edit]Hello Capa1974, thank you for submitting this comprehensive request. It’s great to see that you are planning to organize another Art and Feminism event at the International Center of Photography. I have reviewed your proposal and have the following comments.
- In your proposal you mentioned that you would have experienced editors supporting you at the event. Would you please edit the proposal adding their Wikimedia usernames?
Training will be facilitated and coordinated through the Art + Feminism NYC Ambassador, Megan O’Hearn. She can be found here ---> https://www.artandfeminism.org/
- You also mentioned that this would be your second event. Could you link your previous event in the proposal page?
Of course! Here is an additional link: https://www.icp.org/events/icp-x-art-feminism-wikipedia-edit-a-thon
- You have budgeted costs for “Design for posters” and “Additional marketing”. Would you please elaborate on them? Please note that Rapid Grant funds may not currently be used as compensation for people’s time. So any costs covering people’s time should be removed.
I have reworked our budget and added a table with notes on specific marketing costs in our proposal.
- Our grant project does not allow for project dates to be only one day, in order to accommodate grantees to incur expenses before their project, if necessary. Would you kindly update your grant period dates? It can be as short as 20-21 June.
Absolutely, thank you for letting us know. We have updated our dates in the proposal.
- Thank you again for your contributions to the Wikimedia Movement. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 07:43, 10 February 2020 (UTC)
Hi DSaroyan (WMF), thank you for such a quick and generous comments on our grant proposal. Our responses are written in italics above and edits have been made in the proposal. Please let us know if you have any additional questions. Warm Regards, Capa1974.
- Hello Capa1974, thanks so much for your thoughtful responses. I have one last request.
- Please reduce the social media marketing expenses by half; currently it is higher than what we approve for other similar projects. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 07:41, 13 February 2020 (UTC)
Hi DSaroyan (WMF), Thank you for keeping us apprised. We have updated our budget with a decreased marketing expense and an added coffee break to make sure our editors have enough time to relax and restore. All the best, Capa1974.
Approved

Request for Extension
[edit]Dear DSaroyan (WMF),
I am writing to request an extension on ICP's proposed timeline for the International Center of Photography/Art+feminism Edit-a-thon. The new proposed date of the event will be Saturday, October 23, 2021 with a start date of September 20, 2021 and end date of November 1, 2021 (the format, budget and description remain the same).
Due to the impact of COVID-19, the International Center of Photography made the difficult decision to close its facility on March 17, 2020. Having just moved into its new home at 79 Essex Street on January 25, 2020, the pandemic closure was a one-two punch for the institution to reformat its needs for a virtual constituency. Fortunately, ICP was able to re-open its doors on October 1, 2020 and have remained open successfully, reinvigorated by visitors interest in social justice work, photography and living museums during this challenging moment. While the on-site museum exhibitions are proving to be safe and enjoyable, Public Programs will not be on-site until September 2021. The Museum remains at 25% capacity, adhering to protocols set forth by New York City and in turn, due to the restrictions against gatherings, Public Programs remain virtual.
Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, ICP has hosted 37 virtual Public Programs through Zoom on icp.org that have welcomed 4,755 people. While virtual programming has become an exciting endeavor, ICP is set on hosting the Art+Feminsim edit-a-thon on-site in the new facility where participants will be able to utilize ICP's digital and periodical Library resources. The edit-a-thon will take place in the state-of-the-art William Randolph Hearst Library, and will be hosted in tandem with two major exhibitions from two prominent women photographers (To Be Announced), directly relating to the edit-a-thon. The William Randolph Hearst Library is a central resource for more than 70,000 students, visiting scholars, and the public alike. The 3,130 square foot, double height library contains a rotating selection of ICP’s best resources and archival materials (20,000 volumes featured from ICP’s 40,000-volume collection of books), managed by an expert team of librarians and specialists. The Library is an open-format, where members of the public are able to walk in, register, and use the library collection with the help of expert staff free of charge. (learn more here https://www.icp.org/news/icp-grants-hearst-foundations-arnold-and-augusta-newman-foundations). At the hub of the School, Museum and Public Programs, the Library is an ideal location for the edit-a-thon to take place and ICP is eager to build upon the energy of its first successful edit-a-thon.
As ICP gradually moves back into our new home and expands capacity in the facility, we hope that the Wikimedia Foundation will consider granting an extension to our original proposal to host the edit-a-thon on Saturday, October 23, 2021. Please let us know if the Foundation can grant ICP this new timeline, and we thank you for your kind consideration and patience.
Warm Regards, Capa1974.
Extension approved
[edit]Hello Capa1974, thanks for posting this update on the talk page. I'm sorry to learn that the International Center of Photography has also been affacted by COVID-19. I'm happy to approve your extension request and extend the grant end date to November 1, 2021; the grant start date should remain the same. Please note that the reporting due date for your grant is now December 1, 2021. All the best, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 07:07, 1 February 2021 (UTC)
Request for Extension
[edit]Dear DSaroyan (WMF),
I hope you are safe and well.
I am writing to request an extension on ICP's proposed timeline for the International Center of Photography/Art+feminism Edit-a-thon. The new proposed date of the event will be Saturday, March 12, 2022 with a start date of February 15, 2022 and end date of April 15, 2022 (the format, budget and description remain the same).
Due to Art+Feminism’s leadership and staff taking a pause on all programmatic activities this fall to prioritize work that improves and creates anti-oppression policies and mechanisms internally and the organizations encouragement to keep all edit-a-thons online at this time, ICP will postpone their Wikipedia Edit-a-Thon until March 2022. ICP plans to hold a hybrid event in person in our library, creating a hub for students to engage and learn about editing in person and online, hosting panels and conversations that educate about the representation gap on Wikipedia as well as in photography. Pushing the event to March will also us to build an event with the full support of Art+Feminism and to create an impactful experience for both students on site and our community abroad.
We hope that the Wikimedia Foundation will consider granting a second and final extension to our amended proposal to host the edit-a-thon on Saturday, March 12, 2022. Please let us know if the Foundation can grant ICP this new timeline, and we thank you for your kind consideration and patience.
Best Regards, Capa1974.
