Not funded and recommendations[edit]

Hello Ndahiro derrick and Mrbobax, thanks for your work on the grant proposal. I reviewed it and unfortunately, I have to mark it as not funded. I apologize for this decision because I understand the cultural importance behind the project. That's why, I have some recommendations on how you can improve the project and resubmit it.

  • There should be a clear plan about the photowalks that I couldn't find. I kindly ask to provide more information about the Genocide memorial sites in Rwanda that you plan to photograph. If it's only one location, I don't think there is a need to run 5 photowalks.
  • You need to research and understand the list of objects that you plan to photograph and the list of articles you plan to edit. It shouldn't be a final or comprehensive list but at least, you need to have some understanding about it.
  • Information about organizers are missing. I could only find the number of organizers in the budget.

I think your targets need to be revised too:

  • You will run 1 training/editathons with 25 participants and you'll improve 25 articles. You didn't mention the number of new editors, but I guess some participants will be experienced and they may edit more. Also, does it mean that the photos will be used only on 25 articles? Will organizers also edit these 25 articles?
  • You plan to upload 300 photos. If all these 300 photos are from the same location, you'll have lots of repetitive photos. If they are not from the same location, then each participant will take only 12 photos (300/25). In this case, I recommend lowering the number of participants traveling to each location.
  • Are the organizers also going to travel with the participants? If they do, then the actual number of participants is even lower and the budget items for prizes and swags are miscalculated.

I think that your budget should be reconsidered too:

  • Taking a look at your detailed budget and given the project scope and targets, I think that the requested amount is high.
  • Given the project scope, I don't think you need to organize both project launch and closing ceremony. I recommend keeping only the editathon/training and organizing the closing ceremony during it. I don't understand why do you need to run a full day closing ceremony.
  • I think the swag budget should be revised too.
  • I don't think you need 200 USD of communication budget given the scope of the project and number of participants.
  • I also don't think there is a need to offer certificates and prizes given that you plan to cover all expenses for the participants during the photowalks and trainings. Only certificates should be enough as an appreciation.

In short, you need to provide more details about the plan of running photowalks, the targets and budget should be revised. I'm sorry again for this decision. I hope you can revise the project plan and resubmit the proposal next month. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 10:31, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
