@FaithMwanyolo: Hi Faith! Thanks very much for this detailed report on your community edit-a-thons at Riara Univeristy in Nairobi. I am accepting this final report with the following comments and questions:

  • Congratulations on your achievements in participation! Attracting around 40 participants for each session is impressive, even if it slightly fell short of your goal for these targets.
  • I really appreciate the level of detail you have put into your reflection on this event concerning future partnerships, needs around volunteering, event logistics, and event structure. It's clear you are paying close attention to what is working well, and areas you'd like to improve or have specific needs, and this is likely to result in better events and outcomes in your future work. Thanks for spending some time to let us know how you are thinking about these areas.
  • You had mentioned that you used some time to understand participants' individual goals for these events. What sort of goals did participants have?
  • Can you provide a list of articles created or improved as a result of the event, and also report how many articles were created/improved in total?

The remaining funds for the grant do not need to be returned to us as the remaining amount is minimal, and can be reused for any general movement activities with no reporting requirement. You may also use them for a future grant if you choose. Thanks very much for your report, and I look forward to your response. Thanks, (talk) 22:47, 12 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Hi I JethroBT (WMF) ,

Thank you giving me the opportunity to contribute to the Wikimedia Foundation. I did learn a lot and I am really looking forward to working on future projects and contributing to the community.

Some of the individual goals included:

  1. A lot of the participants wanted to truly understand the concept of collaborative editing. A lot of them had spent years being told that Wikipedia, as an example, is not a reliable source of information so they needed to truly understand the concept in order to demystify this claim.
  2. Learning how to edit and contribute content to any of the Wikis. The major issue here was articles being taken down. They hence needed to learn how to properly contribute in order for their articles to remain on the Wiki they contributed to.
  3. To meet fellow Wikimedians as the number of Wikimedians in Kenya is quite small and the opportunities for us to meet have been very scarce. So this was an opportunity to actually feel like a community.
  4. To understand copyright and how to obey copyright laws when creating articles or contributing content. I invited a lawyer from Creative Commons to assist with this.

As for the articles, I have requested the participants to send me links to the articles and I will post them here as soon as possible. I want to double check with them and ensure the list I have is accurate. Also, some of the articles got taken down. I will revert with this feedback as soon as possible.

Warm regards, FaithMwanyolo

Hello FaithMwanyolo, thank you for responding to our questions and comments. In the future you can use the Programs and Events Dashboard [1] to track your participants. This will allow you to track their work as well so you don't have to ask them for it later. Please let us know if you have any other questions. Best regards, WJifar (WMF) (talk) 20:13, 17 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@FaithMwanyolo: Hi Faith! Do you have an update on an article list for your event? Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 17:12, 8 January 2020 (UTC)Reply
