Grants talk:Project/Rapid/Jacob Lawrence Gallery/Art+Feminism Edit-a-Thon (Seattle, 2017)/Report

Hello, Louize5! We appreciate seeing the level of engagement in preparation for your edit-a-thon, and hope you will continue to consider hosting future editing events with the participants who were able to join. It was wonderful to see involvement from the Cascadian Wikimedians as well as the Jacob Lawrence Gallery and Wiki Ed! We encourage you to work with them again, and to consider hosting a series of editathons to provide a space for potential editors to return and develop their skills, confidence and connectedness with the community.

Could you elaborate--either on this discussion page, on the report itself--on a couple points:

  • Were you able to follow-up or interact with the 7 participants after the edit-a-thon, or to offer any further support in building on their editing skills? After learning about the overall turnout, perhaps a smaller-sized event would be more feasible in the future, and could potentially offer more individualized attention to address their level of experience or comfort with editing.
    • I followed up with a couple of them, yes. They were really exited to learn about editing Wikipedia, but haven't picked it up after the event. One of them mentioned to her 20-year-old daughter about attending our event, which sparked her interest - the daughter is now engaged in edit-a-thons in Baltimore, where she attends college.
  • Could you share links to the articles that were created or improved?
  • Lastly, please let us know if you have reached a decision regarding the remaining funds from this grant. Again, you may wish to reallocate them to a future grant submission within 30 days, or return the funds to WMF. For more information, see this page.
    • We definitely want to use the remaining funds for another edit-a-thon. Since I'm not going to be part of the organizing efforts for those events, I'm waiting to hear from the person responsible about their plans to submit a new budget proposal with those funds. Would it be best if I just returned the money and have them write a new grant proposal when the time comes?

Looking forward to your reply! Best, Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 23:40, 28 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

My answers are in italics after the questions! Louize5 (talk) 17:23, 30 June 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Louize5! Thanks for your responses, and we hope the participants will continue to engage with the Wikimedia projects! Since the terms of our grant agreement do not allow re-granting of funds to another individual or project, we recommend following the instructions on this page to return the remaining funds. In the meantime, we're happy to accept this report, and look forward to seeing future submissions from your colleagues. Please be sure to keep in touch, and thanks once more for your work for the movement! Cheers, Morgan Jue (WMF) (talk) 20:11, 3 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
