Comments from WMF[edit]

Hello Kid Keen 47, thanks for submitting this Rapid Grant request. I have reviewed it and have some questions that I would like you to address:

  • You have mentioned that you would expect to have 7 participants in each photowalk. How are you going to reach out to potential participants and select them? Will you be having open call for participants?
  • At your photowalks you plan to take photos of natural and cultural objects in the middle belt region of Nigeria. Do you have any prepared list of the objects that you plan to photograph? How have you made sure that there are not any free photos available on Wikimedia Commons?
  • You are planning to organize 4 photowalks with 7 participants in each. However, the target for the total number of photos is only 90; this means that one participant will take and upload less than 4 photos (90/28). I suggest revising and increasing your measures of success.
  • Have you considered organizing this photowalk during the Wiki Loves Monuments or Wiki Loves Africa contests?
  • You have budgeted expenses for “Payment to resource person who will give the talk on Photography”. Please remove this item since this is compensation for people’s time which is currently ineligible in terms of the Rapid Grants guidelines.

I will look forward to your response! Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 11:14, 26 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello DSaroyan (WMF), bellow are the answers to your question.

  • No i will not be having an open call for participants because all the the participants i selected are my friends, school mates etc and i have already informed them.
  • No i do not have a prepared list of objects to photograph. There are many interesting and unique things to photograph in that area. I have checked Wikimedia Commons and those scenes are not there.
  • I earlier proposed the number of pictures to be 90 because i intended that participants will go through all the pictures they took and upload only the best ones. obviously a lot more pictures will be taken during the walk. In view of your advice i have increased the to number to 210 so each participant uploads at least 7 best photos for each walk.
  • I did not consider joining the Wiki Loves Monuments or Wiki Loves Africa contest for this project. i do not even know about it. i just though that i and my friends will do a great job and proposed this project.
  • i have removed the “Payment to resource person who will give the talk on Photography” part of the budget since it is not allowed.

Hello Kid Keen 47, thanks for your responses.
  • Please update the total budget in the probox with the new requested amount.
  • If you don't have any list of objects, how are you going to find out what to photograph? Additionally, in which articles do you intend to use the photos aside from the Shere Hill Ushafa Dam?
  • Please prepare a list of objects you will be photographing. This does not need to be a comprehensive list, but at least, we need to understand which objects will be photographed and what will be the encyclopedic significance of these images. After creating this list, please link it on the proposal page.

Request for extension of project time[edit]

Hello DSaroyan (WMF) I apply that the time which I have earlier said to complete this project be extended to 15 February 2021. This is because, some of the areas where we were to cover in the photowalk was involved in local crises especially between the Fulani herdsmen who take their cows around to feed and local farmers who claim that the cows destroyed their farms. This lead to fighting and a number of deaths from both camps. it therefore became impossible to go to these areas as the police and military are trying to handle the problem. The situation is getting better by the day and we believe that we will still be able to cover some of the places between now and the middle of February. we may have to abandon any place that we are not able to cover by that time and possible supplement it with other good areas.
