Hello Nirmal Dulal, thank you for submitting this comprehensive report and apologies for our delayed review. Congratulations on completing this productive project! It is amazing that you have uploaded over 1,000 photos and improved over 100 articles of birds. I have reviewed your report and have the following questions and comments.

  • Thank you for creating the complete list of birds of Nepal! Could you provide an approximate number of species still missing images and articles?
  • Did you take ornithologists with you to the photowalks or they identified the birds after the events?
  • What was the reason that you could not get media coverage?
  • I am glad that the number of valued and quality images has increased since you wrote this report.
  • You mentioned that you would like to make this contest international. Do you have any ideas or plans on how you will make it happen?

Hi DSaroyan Thank you for accepting final report and expense documentation. Here are reply for your comments:
  • There are 886 recorded species of birds found in Nepal. We improved only hundreds during this event, which means still more than 750 articles are stub in ne-Wiki. And there are about 25+ (ie: Chinese bush warbler, Pale-footed bush warbler, Swamp grass babbler) among 886 birds from Nepal that have no images on Wikipedia.
  • I collaborated with Bird Conservation Nepal (a member organization of BirdLife International) while organizing Wiki Loves Birds. Bird experts from BCN helped us to identify birds’ species during and after the event.
  • I communicated with some media but they did not show interest in publishing news about it.
  • I am planning to collaborate with the Wikimedians from other countries, who are interested in this event. (I was planning to discuss this during the Wiki Conference 2020 but now I'm thinking of doing it through social media). Because There are 10000+ documented species of birds in the world. If we can run this project at an international level, we can have more quality and valuable images of birds from all around the world and be able to improve the quality and quantity of articles about birds.
