Comments from DSaroyan (WMF)[edit]

Hi OtuNwachinemere, thanks for submitting this Rapid Fund application and apologies for the delayed review. I have reviewed the application and have a few questions:

  • Could you please describe the proposed mentorship program? How will you make sure that some participants continue their active engagement after the project completion?
  • Could you please provide more details about the role of User:Tochiprecious in this project?
  • Can you confirm that there are no local community members who could carry out these activities?

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 14:39, 18 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Response[edit]

Hello DSaroyan (WMF), thank you for the review. Here is my response:

  • Applying learnings from a previous event and leveraging on the University's desire to partner,I plan to aid the participants in establishing a Wiki club on the campus whose activities will receive support (including funding) from the University management and other existing Wiki affiliates. Such an Administrative structure will aid continued active engagement for some of the participants after the project is completed.
  • Tochiprecious has extensive cognate experience with building and sustaining communities. She is also a Wiki Educator. I am grateful that she has agreed to work with me on this project.
  • To the best of my knowledge, there are no local community members in/around the subject locations. Also, kindly recall that this is an on-request project occasioned by an established relationship from a previously successful one.

I would be most grateful if you could also share with me any other resource you think would be helpful to achieving/furthering the project goal. Thank you in advance.

Many thanks. Regards, OtuNwachinemere (talk) 07:37, 20 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello OtuNwachinemere, thanks for your response.
  • Tochiprecious's engagement is not clear to me. You described what experience she would bring but not what she would do in terms of this project. Could you please describe what responsibilities she will have in terms of this project? It's important because we need to understand if we can move forward with this grant submission given that Tochiprecious is a leader of a Wikimedia Affiliate that receives Wikimedia Community Fund (General Support Fund).
  • Even if the project is on-request, you still need to notify the community and engage any local experienced editors to support you. It's important to make sure that Wikimedia organizers in the same location collaborate with each other. I'm saying this also for your future projects.
  • The best resource that I know about running editathons is the learning module of the Outreach Dashboard. Please look at the Running Editathons and other Editing Events module and let me know if it's helpful.
Looking forward to hearing from you. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 09:39, 21 March 2022 (UTC)Reply

Response 2[edit]

Hello DSaroyan (WMF),
  • Tochiprecious will be playing a volunteer advisory role on this project. We will only consult with them at different stages of the project life cycle, especially with regards to establishing the wiki club.

Request for Project Extension[edit]

Dear DSaroyan (WMF), I wish to request for an extension of this project from the July 10 date to November 10 2022, this is because there is an ongoing strike of academic staff of tertiary institutions in Nigeria and unfortunately this has hampered our event progress. I am hopeful that the extension requested will give enough room to catch up on time lost and any other eventualities. Thanks you!--OtuNwachinemere (talk) 19:24, 10 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Hello OtuNwachinemere, thanks for posting your request. I have reviewed and formally approved it. The new grant end date is November 10, 2022, and the final report is due on December 10, 2022. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 08:02, 12 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Request for Project Extension 2[edit]

Dear DSaroyan (WMF), The Academic Staff Union of Universities in Nigeria has just called of the 8-month industrial action. I wish to request for a second extension of this project from the November 10 date to June 10 2023, this is because the school managements have requested time to round up old academic sessions, settle into new ones and recover some time lost to the just concluded industrial action. I am hopeful that this will be the final extension request and there will be enough room to catch up on time lost and any other eventualities. Thankfully, we already engaged vendors prior and have their assurances not to worry about renegotiations due to inflation. Thank you! --OtuNwachinemere (talk) 08:35, 10 November 2022 (UTC)Reply
