Hello SumaiyaAlwahaibi, thanks again for submitting this Rapid Grant request for the Wiki4Women initiative. We are really excited that you plan to run Wikimedia activities in Oman! I have reviewed your grant proposal and have some questions and requests:

  • You mentioned that Mervat will support you in terms of this project. Could you please describe her involvement in the planned activities? Dear Mervat, thank you for supporting Sumaiya! Could you please confirm your participation in this project?
  • As a response to question #2, you have mentioned “@cm_muscat”. Could you please explain what this is?
  • We now require all grantees to announce their projects and receive the Wikimedia community feedback in advance. Could you please announce this project and grant on the relevant community pages on the target wikis? Community notification may be most appropriate on a village pump, talk page, or mailing list. Please paste a link into the proposal page to where the relevant communities have been notified of this proposal, and to any other relevant community discussions.
  • Do you have any past experience in running Wikimedia or any similar projects in your community? Could you please share your experience with us?
  • In the proposal you mentioned that you would partner with the Ministry of Social Development. It is great news! Have they confirmed their participation? How will they support you?
  • The Marketing costs seem very high from what we usually support in terms of the Rapid Grant program. Could you please elaborate on the need for having such a high amount for promotional expenses?
  • In the budget, please add the number of units and unit price for each expense item.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 12:42, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Hello @DSaroyan (WMF):: Thank you for your followup. I contacted Ms Sumaiya after a colleague from the movement put me in touch with her. There is a great potential to open a horizon in Oman, the initiative is promising, and yes, I will help in the training, suggested content review, approval of produced content, and provide support for the participant after the math, in case anyone would like to continue editing, etc. --Mervat (talk) 22:25, 19 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Mervat, thanks so much for your willingness to support! --DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 07:36, 20 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Response from SumaiyaAlwahaibi[edit]

  • As a response to question #2, you have mentioned “@cm_muscat”. Could you please explain what this is?
  • I am the team lead/host of CreativeMornings (CM) Muscat chapter (https://creativemornings.com/cities/mct) We're a free monthly breakfast lecture series for Muscat's creative community. and so, the team who will be working on the wiki4women event is the CM team, we will use the CM current platforms to amplify the event launching material.
  • I think this is irrelevant to my community.
  • Do you have any past experience in running Wikimedia or any similar projects in your community? Could you please share your experience with us?
  • I have participated in the Wiki4Women event that was conducted at UNESCO HQ in Paris in 2018 during IWD. Also, I run monthly events through CM where we host around 100-150 guests. And I lead a professional team that is also well experienced in organizing and catering to different events.
  • In the proposal you mentioned that you would partner with the Ministry of Social Development. It is great news! Have they confirmed their participation? How will they support you?
  • Yes, they have confirmed, and they will support us by providing technical support such as providing more resources/references of women figures, in addition, they will amplify the event in their social media and networks.
  • The Marketing costs seem very high from what we usually support in terms of the Rapid Grant program. Could you please elaborate on the need for having such a high amount for promotional expenses?
  • The marketing resources are more costly in here than other regions, overall creative industries services in here are at high demands and finding a professional team who can provide detailed support from the launching to documenting the day of the event cost a lot. Also, due to Covid-19, it's not going to be very easy to convince people to participate, we will need an intense marketing plan as an editathon is a very new thing to most Omani youth.
  • In the budget, please add the number of units and unit price for each expense item.
  • Item Estimated Cost (USD)
  • Marketing cost breakdown:
  • 1 Content Development (20 posts & event proposal presentation detailed bi-lingual (Arabic and English) & sign language content x 8.5)=170
  • 2 Design & Branding (20 design of social media posts, stories x 10 + 1 logo x 120 )=320
  • 3 Marketing Campaigns (1 social media calendar x 120 + 1 full coverage on the day of the training x 70 + 1 full coverage on the day of the event x 210 )=400
  • 4 Photography & Videography (50 edited photos x 2 + 1 pre-event promotional 10 minutes video x 70 + 1 video of the full event x130)=300
  • Total Marketing Costs: 1190
  • Operations cost breakdown:
  • 6 Food and Catering (100 persons x 2)=200
  • 7 Venue Costs (120 chairs x 5.3)=530
  • 8 Certificates (1.25 per certificate x 100 participants)=80
  • Total Operations Costs: 810
  • TOTAL COST 2000

Approved[edit]

Dear @Mervat and @SumaiyaAlwahaibi, thank you again for your work on this grant proposal. We are glad to inform you that it has been approved! We recognize the need to establish the core Wikimedia group in Oman and we are happy with your plans to do it. That's why we are approving the proposed marketing costs for this project. However, please note that in the future, we won't support this amount for marketing purposes. DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 09:44, 29 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
