Grants talk:Project/Rapid/TRahman/Article contest and Wiki loves earth 2017/Report

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Hello Wikitanvir, Thank you for putting this report together. It was great to see you had met and exceeded your article and participant outcomes! I am including a couple of follow up questions for you to consider:

  1. You mentioned that many photos were not eligible for the contest. Why do you think this was? How could you mitigate this for future events?
  2. Do you have any ideas to improve the quality of photos in the future?

I have accepted your final report and expense documentation. All the best, LMiranda (WMF) (talk) 20:38, 5 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Lauren, sorry for the late reply. Here are the answers.
  1. We had a specific list for the photo contest and some participants uploaded photos out of the list that's why they were ineligible for the contest but those photos are still within the scope of Commons. In future, we are planning to raise awareness through our social media to stay within the contest scope but we assume we'll have some photos in every contest out of the list and that's okay as long as they are within the scope of Commons.
  2. Yes, we had a huge press coverage last year as two of our photos were in international top 10 of WLM and one photo placed 11th in the WLE. So, now almost every photographer in Bangladesh know about the existence of 2 contests. And we're also reaching out local photography clubs and photographers personally regarding the contests for the best shots.
I hope the answers satisfy you. Let me know if you have any more questions. Thanks. — T. 10:16, 10 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]
