Comments from I JethroBT (WMF)[edit]

Hello Umar-askira, and thanks for this proposal including a workshop and public awareness campaign. Here are my comments and questions:

  • Please respond to Question 4 in the application, especially as the proposed activities focus on promotion as a main part of their purpose: 4. What is your post-promotion plan?
  • Can you describe what the Get Passes are in greater detail, and how they are separate from the costs of the Hall and Computer Lab they are related to?
  • Your goals state that you want to promote Wikipedia projects / campaigns, and you hope to reach more than 500 people. When you say that you will reach people, what does that mean? How will this be evaluated, and what impact do you expect to have on people you reach?
  • Because this is a multiday event involving several speakers and sessions, have you considered applying for funding through Conference and Event Fund?

Hi I JethroBT (WMF), You are welcome and pleasure to meet you. Thanks for reviewing my project proposal and here are my answers:
  • I have responded to Question 4 as you ask me to do so.
  • The (Get Pass) means the (licence) to get into the hall before the awareness days (4/3) days before the awareness to control an unwanted crowd. I choose to use the get pass for:
i- COVID 19 protocols.
ii- Controlling number of needed people in the awareness days because the total number of people needed is 50.
iii- Having flexible control of the participants.

  • Yes i said the campaign would reach (more than 500 people) but i am not gathering up to such number of people in the awareness days due COVID 19 protocol. And my evaluation is, i would follow the same way i aware people and shear with them what has been be discussed in the awareness days by translating it into our local language (Hausa language). The potential impact i am expecting is, the community would step down from their superstitious belief on the climate change and global warm. This project would enlighten them on how to take control to the effects of climate change and global warm.
  • I did not yet go through Conference and Event Fund as you stated above, that is why i haven't apply through it.
Best Regards,

@Umar-askira: Thanks for this response. After reviewing the proposal, we are unfortunately not able to fund it for the following reasons:
  • The scope of this proposal is too complex for eligibility under Rapid Funds. It would need to requested under the Conference & Event Fund as it is currently designed. The following aspects of scope are relevant in this case:
  • That the activities (a public campaign and a workshop training) occur over multiple days
  • That the activities are full-day events
  • That there is a formal registration process involved
  • That the activities require a large number of speakers / trainers across the proposed events
An event or events that is more reduced in scope along these factors may be eligible for consideration under Rapid Funds.
  • I am concerned that the proposed evaluation plan (measuring participation and reach) and post-promotion plan may not be effective ways reach your goals (that is, to promote and assess awareness of Wikimedia projects related to these topics). Given that this is larger level of funding you are requesting, there should be a more specific effort to understand how participants are using, engaging, or sharing information about Wikimedia projects after the activities. Another approach could be to evaluate views or engagement with topically related pages on Hausa Wikipedia. Furthermore, your response on here on the talk page suggests another different (and productive) goal, which is to reduce superstitious beliefs about the topic. Whether Wikipedia articles can modify someone's beliefs is a complex matter, but more importantly, it's not clear how this would be evaluated from your proposal.
  • A second concern is that the proposal appears to require a lot of expert speakers that could not be confirmed at the time of the proposal. While it's OK for a small number of roles and speakers to not be confirmed in proposals we review, many roles were not in this case, and this presents some important risks in terms of achieving your goals.
Thank you for your proposal, and please let me know if you have any questions. With thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 19:54, 3 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Hi I JethroBT (WMF), thanks for your final review and response to my answers. It is indeed a great experience this proposals rendered to my history. I went through different projects but this is the greatest i wish to have hosted but unfortunately it failed. But nevertheless, i will make more efforts to make it work in the future. Thanks a lot.
Best regards,
