Comments from WMF[edit]

Hello W, thanks for submitting this Rapid Grant request. It's great that you are going to organize a Wikipedia 20 event in Belarus. I have reviewed the proposal and have a few questions about the budget:

  • Given the number of proposed participants (10), the number of prizes seem too high (4). Could you please engage more participants or reduce the number of offered prizes?
  • What kind of prizes you intend to give to participants?
  • What will "Gift for the hostess" cost cover?
  • Don't you need any snacks, refreshments, or even a cake for your Wikipedia 20 celebration? You can include similar expenses in your budget as well.

Looking forward to your responses. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 13:59, 5 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, DSaroyan (WMF)! How are you? Thanks a lot for your review. I can engage 10 more participants, as there were 20 of them during the Wikimedia CEE Spring 2020 (be-tarask:Вікіпэдыя:Праект:Віківясна-2020/Удзельнікі). It is also possible to reduce the number of prizes for creating articles from 3 to 2 by omitting the 3rd prize of $100. I intend to give the prizes, chosen by the winners themselves, as it has been the successful case in both recent CEE Spring contests, that I coordinated in Belarus, & Wiki Loves Earth 2020 alike (Grants:Project/Rapid/User Group Belarus/Wiki Loves Earth Belarus 2020/Report). Most winners, who sent me their prize requests, chose to update their computer hardware, that they use for contributing on Wikipedia. "Gift for the hostess" will cover the expenses to host the celebratory Wiki meetup on January 15. Hopefully, it will also serve as a token of gratitude for her multi-year work with the students, whom she personally engaged into editing Wikipedia. Yes, both the refreshments & snacks will be needed. The hot herbal tea varieties can be provided by the hostess, as it was done during our Wiki meetup at Falanster (be-tarask:Фалянстэр) in February. I would be thankful for including $25 of expenses for the cake & snacks in the budget. Best wishes,--W (talk) 10:04, 6 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
Hello W, thanks for your response.
  • It's a great idea to offer prizes by winners' choice. However, please note that giving cash prizes is not allowed in terms of the Rapid Grants, so do not offer cash money if any of the participants requests so.
  • Could you make the changes to the number of participants or prizes on the proposal page?
  • Please also include cake and snacks expenses into your budget and recalculate the total requested funds.

Hello, DSaroyan (WMF)! Thank you for the approval of prizes by winners' choice as well as reminding about the terms of the Rapid Grants. I offered only non-cash prizes in all previous contests & will follow the same terms again. I changed the number of participants on the proposal page to 20. I also included cake & snacks expenses into the budget & recalculated the total requested funds up to $875. Best wishes,--W (talk) 13:42, 8 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]
