Report accepted[edit]

Hello GoEThe and Wikimedia Portugal, thanks for submitting this report for the WLE 2020 in Portugal. I have reviewed it and have the following comments and questions:

  • We are happy with your project outcomes too, and extremely sorry for the negative impact that COVID-19 had on your activities.
  • You mentioned that in comparison to the Wiki Loves Monuments campaign, you had more newcomers for the Wiki Loves Earth. Do you have any explanation what caused this?
  • We are glad that the wikilovesearth.pt website is working now! Hopefully, it will bring you more audience for the WLE 2021.
  • You also mentioned that social media ads didn’t ensure significant engagement. What other outreach methods did you use that were more effective?

Thanks again for your work and for all the amazing images from Portugal! The expense documents and final report are reviewed and accepted which means that this grant is now complete! Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 12:22, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you DSaroyan (WMF)! Regarding your questions:
  • We are not sure. It could be that the WLM contest has been more regular throughout the years or has had more exposure, and is more consolidated now, or that WLE is smaller due to more limited number of sites to photograph and more difficult to reach these places. You can literally take a walk through your neighbourhood and photograph a dozen monuments while protected areas are usually more secluded and need higher planning to photograph, so people may not contribute so regularly.
  • Yes, it is running now, and requires less updating now, so we hope to use it more extensively this year.
  • For WLM we had some success in contacting municipalities to advertise the competition in the local papers, which seemed to have a higher effect. We will definitely repeat it for WLE this year, along as trying to engage with more specialized media, such as nature or photography related e-zines. GoEThe (talk) 13:49, 19 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
