From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Comments from DSaroyan (WMF)[edit]

Hi Odomero2711, thank you for submitting your grant application. After reviewing your grant proposal, we have some questions to learn more about the project and planned activities.

  • How would you make sure to involve 60 librarians in the project?
  • Aside from awareness activities, what other goals do you have for the project?
  • How would you make sure that some of the librarians are engaged after the events even when you do not run any specific activities?
  • What is the need for running in-person awareness activities considering that in person activities take so much resources?
  • How familiar are you with GLAM-Wiki activities?
  • What specific GLAM-Wiki activities will you prioritize and how would you follow up with interested participants?
  • Aside from posting a notification on the talk page of Wikimedia Nigeria UG and sharing the project in the team, have you shared it with other relevant community members?
  • Your team is also involved in a few grants that are under our review. The dates of these projects are overlapping. I'm curious to learn more about your team's capacity. How do you manage your time as volunteers? How would you be able to co-organize and be engaged in these projects?
  • I would also like to learn more about your team as an organized group. How do you plan your projects?
  • Additionally, how do you manage funds as a group even if the grant type is individual? How do you ensure transparent usage of funds in the group?

Looking forward to hearing from you soon. Thanks for your time, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 12:35, 3 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Hello Davit,
Kindly see below the responses to the questions asked in regard to the project and planned activities:
Question 1: How would you make sure to involve 60 librarians in the project?
*Answer*
I have discussed this training with the executives and members of the Association of Women Librarians in Nigeria, Lagos state chapter in our virtual and physical meetings respectively in March 2022.The women librarians expressed their interest in the training during the virtual and physical meetings and are eager to commence training at the expected date. More so, I have also spoken with the Nigerian Library Association Lagos Chapters' Public Relations Officer who has notified the over 177 association members ahead using WhatsApp groups and in-person meetings.
In addition, I have held some in-person meetings with registrars of schools and heads of libraries in Academic, Special, National, and Public libraries in Lagos state who are shortlisting 2 to 3 representatives from their institutions.Based on the in-person meeting held and notifications earlier sent to stakeholders involved in this project, we are certain to have the participation of 60 or more librarians to attend the training.
Question 2: Aside from awareness activities, what other goals do you have for the project?
*Answer*
Aside from awareness activities which include;
Creating visibility and widespread adoption in information processing, retrieval, and dissemination to information seekers using Wikipedia and its sister's project; and promoting open knowledge and free access to information among librarians in Lagos State.
The other specific goals for this project are to;
Teach participants the core content policies guiding Wikipedia article creation and how to use the article creation wizard.
Train participants how to perform minor edits on Wikipedia using citation hunts tools, adding Wikilinks, and infoboxes to articles.
Create and improve Wikipedia articles and Wikidata items (e.g. creating sections for libraries on Lagos academic institutions having existing Wikipedia articles)
Train participants how to run SPARQL queries using Wikidata query services
Question 3: How would you make sure that some of the librarians are engaged after the events even when you do not run any specific activities?
*Answer*
To ensure that the librarians are engaged even after this event, the WhatsApp and Facebook groups that will be created for the participant during the project will provide follow-up and one-on-one support for the participants.
Also daily editing tips on creating Wikipedia articles and wiki data items will be shared on the group.
The various communication channels will also act as announcement page for other contest and campaigns related to GLAM-Wiki.
Question 4:
What is the need for running in-person awareness activities considering that in-person activities take so many resources?
*Answer*
Considering the fact that many of this participants are not digital natives but digital immigrants, it becomes necessary for us to hold series of in-person events to teach them how to use the various ICT gadgets to access different Wikimedia projects for this campaign there by improving their digital literacy skills.
In addition, this will also create better interaction with the participants which is beneficial to increase their participation in the awareness campaign, and develop self-confidence in themselves in performing edits to achieve the goals outlined.
Also, considering the nature and type of environment we are, that internet connectivity may be bad sometimes, we are proposing a blended learning method, so we can have full participation of all participants.
Furthermore, it in-person training will provide maximum concentration;
life demonstration where they can see and easily comprehend; and
motivated when they see others professional being engage in wikipedia.

Question 5: How familiar are you with GLAM-Wiki activities?

*Answer*
Having joined the Wikimedia movements for the past (2 years), and participated in series of contest and campaigns such as (wikilagos, where I won the highest editor award, wikidata for Novelist and Novels,WikiGombe), I have become familiar with GLAM related activities such as 1lib1ref, Wikidata for Museums among others which can increase Librarianship skills to promote free knowledge and open access to information outside of the library walls
'

Question 6: What specific GLAM-Wiki activities will you prioritize and how would you follow up with interested participants?'

Question 7: Aside from posting a notification on the talk page of WNUG and sharing the project with the team, have you shared it with other relevant community members?
*Answer*
Aside from posting on the WNUG and sharing the project with the ream, I have also notified relevant community members through the Nigerian Wikibrarian group and had online meetings with other experience editors outside of the various group outlined, who are willing to assist and promote the campaign.
Question 8a: How do you manage your time as volunteers?
*Answer*
As volunteers with efficient time-management skills, we ensure that each member of the team is assigned specific roles and we prioritize division of labour. Moreso, this project will be executed only during our volunteering hours on specific dates.
Question 8b: How would you be able to co-organize and be engaged in these projects?
*Answer*
Although some of the team are also involved in a few grants under review, we have carefully drafted out plans for the implementation during the timeline set which wouldn't affect other projects.
In addition, we also created a WhatsApp group for regular notifications to provide updates for all team members.
Question 9: I would like to learn more about your team as an organised group.
How do you plan your projects?
*Answer*
My team as an organised group in planning projects, outline strategic goals, impact to measure, and targets to meet at the end of the project.
In addition, we outline the resources needed; including compiling training materials, identify stakeholder's and target audience, so we can reach out to them.
We also ensure that there is an open communication between team members on the project WhatsApp group for team members to express their views concerning task allocated.
Question 10a: Additionally, how do you manage funds as a group even if the grant type is individual?

*Answer*
We also ensure that all team members have access to funds Received and spent using a Google doc to ensure transparency.
