Hi Owula kpakpo, and thanks for your report on this workshop at the Gimpa Law School. Here some questions and comments I have on the outcomes you've reported:

  • I'm glad to hear you were successful in building an agreement with the Law School to host the program, and that you have an audience of students who are interested in contributing. This is a good way to begin building a dedicated community of editors.
  • Thanks for providing some photos from the workshop! What sort of questions or comments did participants have about Wikipedia? During editing or training, were there some tasks that they found more challenging? What would you say participants enjoyed about the session?

Most of them where excited due to the fact that they could also contribute their quota in sharing in the sum of all knowledge. A lot of them where not used to Wikipedia so introducing them to it alone made them excited.--Owula kpakpo (talk) 19:15, 19 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • You've noted that 60 editors were trained on using Wikipedia, but that the Outreach Dashboard didn't capture everyone's contributions. Are there other articles that were worked on besides the ones on the Dashboard?

So there are some articles that where worked on that didn't appear on the Dashbaord because the students tried saving the articles through their sandboxes and are facing issues same as this article on the Patent Act. Also because it was a sort of pilot the lecturer wanted the students to be in groups and the group leader uses his/her account to create the articles so that explains the shortfall.--Owula kpakpo (talk) 19:15, 19 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

  • There were two articles that the Dashboard did capture: first, a topical article called Registration of Intellectual Property in Ghana and an article on a specific Ghanian court case, Paul Oliver v. Samuel K. Boateng. There are also some drafts, like this article on the Trademarks Act this article on the Patent Act as well. There appear to be some editorial concerns with these articles, however. For instance, this article has a copyright infringement notice on it because an editor claims too much of it comes from a publication. Another concern from editors is that these articles rely heavily on primary sources, rather than using secondary sources that discuss the topic. Are there plans to address these issues? What kind of guidance or training was given to participants in the session in starting new articles, and what do you think you can do in future events to help address these concerns?

So we have plans on helping with this issues, currently the students are on summer break so we don't have access to them. We did trainings on how to create a Wikipedia article and an introduction to Wikipedia. Unfortunately for us most of the students didnt come for our second workshop so they had a little difficulty with that and are in touch with us and we helping them. Also in the future we would do more workshops on how to create a Wikipedia article so they know the difference between writing encyclopedic.--Owula kpakpo (talk) 19:15, 19 July 2017 (UTC) Hello I JethroBT (WMF) provided some answers to your questions and comments.[reply]
