Note regarding Finances section[edit]

Bonjour, Geugeor! Once we confirm with you regarding the status of the remaining funds from Editathons 2017, we would like to apply them to the requested budget increase from grant. We look forward to your response soon.

Comments from I JethroBT (WMF)[edit]

Hi Geugeor, and thanks for this report on the WLE event in Cameroon. Here are my comments on your work:

  • It looks like despite lower participation than you expected, you were able to contribute more than the 500 photos you expected to and visited more sites than initially planned. This is a pattern I see in a lot of grants, but I want to express my appreciation for you and the participants for your hard work.
  • Thanks for noting your development of categories as a part of the project. Could you provide a link to some of these categories as an example, and also post a few photos to demonstrate some of the work that participants made during the event?
  • The changes in your budget are reasonable given your circumstances, and I appreciate you describing some of the practical needs you encountered in this event, such as the need for additional internet usage to make sure the photos were uploaded appropriately given the lack of experience on the part of the photographers.

In terms of the overspend, have you addressed the questions from MJue (WMF) on this page and on this report? Thanks, I JethroBT (WMF) (talk) 20:43, 28 November 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Some answers[edit]

Hello I JethroBT, I answer you late because I had to send the photos of Wiki Loves Africa which has just ended. Thank you for excusing me.

About your comments:

  • Thanks for the comments: The interest for the production of the pictures for the Wikimedia projects in Cameroon is delaying but we are on the right track; especially many are doing photography for a commercial purpose. We have had to put in a lot of efforts in achieving the predefined objectives.
  • Categories and work of participants
    • Categories:

Category Bangoua, Category Chutes de la Métché, Category Vina Falls, Category Tello Falls, Category Mami Wata Falls, Category Lobe Falls, Category Sanaga River, Category Baleng_Lake, Category Moun Manengouba, Category Petpenoun Lake, Category Mount Damougare, Category Mount Mbapit, Category Kribi Beach, Category Lake Bambili,...

  • Practical needs
    • The majority of the photographers taking part in the contest do not have a good knowledge of computer science and even less of Wikipedia, so each time they had to be helped in sending pictures from their accounts once their addresses had been created.
    • Given the large size of pictures, a large bandwidth was needed, which is quite expensive in Cameroon.
  • With regard to MJue (WMF)'s questions, the answers have been provided; the following reports are linked:

I remain at your disposal for other remarks or questions.
