Grant application received[edit]

Hello, Geugeor; thank you for submitting your grant application. We are excited to see plans for this third edition of Wiki Loves Earth in Cameroon. We understand that the contest will begin soon; as soon as we receive your responses we will move forward with the review process of this application. We have the following questions and comments:

  1. Given that this is the third time you are hosting this contest, what are the improvements you are including this year? What is different from the last two editions?
  2. In the 2018 report you said that something you would do differently is "train the best after the competition". How do you plan to do it this time around?
  3. You said you would also seek new local partnerships. Do you have new local partners this year?
  4. We are no longer funding the purchase of T-shirts for participants or for single-time volunteers. We are encouraging grantees to only get T-shirts for volunteers who would wear them in several events going forward, for environmental and inclusion reasons. This means that we typically wouldn't fund more than 5 T-shirts. Please adjust this in your budget.

My answers[edit]

Hello MMontes (WMF) ( talk), Thank you for your remarks and for your questions.

As you read in this year's grant, we will have a training session on photography after the awards ceremony. It will be necessary to train between 10 and 15 best participants.

We have the support of several local partners:

1. The Fondation Orange will take charge of the training and is ready to accommodate it on its premises.
2. Other local partners (Galeries Mam - Jokkolabs and Laboratoires Photo Prunet) who accompanied us last year will host the exhibition, the awards ceremony, the work of the jury ...
3. The delegation of arts and culture will give us the authorizations for taking photos through the city of Douala (practical session during the training).

As for T-shirts, I'm going to change.

Conclusion of Wiki Loves Earth contest[edit]

Hello User:I JethroBT (WMF); I hope you are well? We received the funds and we had only one activity related to the contest: The awards ceremony. We canceled it due to recommendations related to Covid-19. However, we must send the prices to participants who live in northern Cameroon. Is it possible to use part of the funds from the "Award ceremony and exhibition" section for sending? Thanks for your help.

Hello Geugeor, I will respond on behalf of my colleague Chris Schilling. I am sorry that you had to cancel the award ceremony due to the COVID-19. I approve your request to use the "Award ceremony and exhibition" expense funds to cover shipping costs, in order to send the awards to the participants.
