Hi Mompati Dikunwane, thanks for organizing this Wikipedia 20 celebration in Botswana and for all your efforts to reactivate the Botswana community. I have some questions after reviewing your report:

  • Some of the usernames you mentioned on the report page don't exist. Could you correct them?
  • Additionally, you mentioned that you had 22 participants, but you have mentioned only 17 participants. Could you please explain this?
  • I checked the contributions of the participants/attendees and neither of them have any contributions to the Wikimedia projects. Did you have any participants who are experienced Wikimedians? Could you please add their usernames?
  • How did you track the participants' contributions? Could you please provide a link to the list of articles you created/improved during the event? Please provide a link to the uploaded images too.
  • I'm sorry to hear that the power outages disrupted your event and celebration.

Thanks again for your contributions to Wikimedia projects. I will look forward to your responses so that I can accept your grant report. All the best, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 14:19, 22 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

  • Hello DSaroyan (WMF), I am so sorry, we had a manual survey and registration due to fact that we had power disruptions so I used it to get usernames of the participants. I was supposed to run this with one experienced Wikimedia, but they were un-able to show up due to their personal Reasons. I have updated the Anything else section of the report for some articles looked in to. Some images are on the articles, some were deleted. We had a very small number of images placed on the commons media repository. — The preceding unsigned comment was added by Mompati Dikunwane (talk)

Additional questions

[edit]

Hi Mompati Dikunwane, thanks for your reply. However, I still miss responses to some of my initial questions. I also need more clarifications about your report. Please respond to my additional comments and questions individually:

  • In you proposal you mentioned: Wikipedia 20 will be a series of trainings to help teach newbies on how to participate in wikimedia and her related projects.. However, no one from the participants has a single edit on any Wikimedia projects. Some of them don't even have a Wikimedia username. Is this only because you had power outages?
  • Additionally, aside from the party, you have requested funds to run 3 workshops. Did you have the same issues during these workshops too?
  • Who has created and improved 40 articles if the participants didn't make any edits and you had no experienced Wikipedians?
  • If you didn't use any way to track the contributions, how do you know that you've improved 40 articles? Please provide the full list of improved articles.
  • Also, please provide the list of 5 uploaded images. It is OK if the rest are deleted.
  • Please provide some links to the discussion pages of those users who uploaded images but received a deletion notification on Wikimedia Commons. I need to review these notifications, as well as the reason for the deletion requests.
  • In the budget of report you mentioned: Transportation: This expense was not receipted, the cost included the organization costs, meal arrangements, transportation from home to the meeting place by 3 organizers.. In you reply on the discussion page you said: I was supposed to run this with one experienced Wikimedia, but they were un-able to show up due to their personal Reasons.. These two statements contradict each other: please explain the discrepancy. Did you have or didn't have any co-organizers?
  • You mentioned that you had 22 participants in the Outcome section, but you have only mentioned the usernames of 17 participants. Could you please explain this too?
  • Please send the scanned copy of the participants' "manual survey" you referred to rapidgrants(_AT_)wikimedia.org.
  • Whom did you offer the t-shirts and caps if you didn't have any co-organizers, experienced users, or participants with contributions to Wikimedia projects?

Looking forward to your responses. Best regards, DSaroyan (WMF) (talk) 09:54, 24 March 2021 (UTC)Reply

Responces to the Additional questions added

[edit]

Hello DSaroyan (WMF), thank you so much for posting additional questions to my report portal, i want to bring to your attention that when we conduct trainings usually to new-bies, we tend to experience difficulties with them, some participants end up getting bored during the process and in time loose interest. New-bies are not interested in making follow ups gto the previous projects until the coordinator asks them to or make a follow up edit-a-thorn to make them enjoy. ̈- There are usually ip restrictions when creating accounts for new-bies, that is why you find out that other users don't have accounts ready. • Some of the participants had to leave the session before it ends, meaning we had the rest of the participants not listed in the portal.
  • As stated on the comment section above, most of the work was considered low quality and not meeting the notability requirements and was deleted from the Wikimedia engine.
  • I was the only experienced Wikimedian during the session.
  • I have selected randomly people who wanted to rock on swag.
  • In the past there used to be a tendency of sending funds to organisers or people needing transport funds in advance other than requesting them to use theirs and later claim re-imbursement, so what i tried to explain in the above case is that funds were sent to organisers to show up and later were un-able to do so.
