APG approved in the amount of 99,900 USD[edit]

Congratulations! Your grant is approved in the amount of 99,900 USD, with a grant term starting 1 January 2021 and ending 31 December 2021. We acknowledge the uncertainty and challenges brought in by the pandemic and social and political revolt in Chile in the past year. We appreciate your efforts in creating a three-axis strategy plan for addressing these challenges and we hope that it will empower your organization to be sustainable and flexible pertaining to the changed circumstances. We also look forward to seeing how Wikimedia Chile plans to restructure the organization chart and the roles and responsibilities of the functionaries. Additionally, we are glad that Wikimedia Chile used this opportunity to bring innovation in the programs designed for the development of content and adaptation of the virtual structure of the programs and operations.

The annual program of Wikimedia Chile for this year focuses on seven prime areas - Outreach, Communities and new users, Education and Digital literacy, Institutional Alliances, Local Identities, Chile in Images project, and The Chile Project.

The Outreach efforts proposed for public awareness and new audiences is impressive and we believe that advocacy programs can be successful with the specific capacity development measures they have planned through different activities mentioned in the annual plan. Communities and new users program aims to develop community capacity building via regular mentoring initiatives for editors and content creators with special emphasis on participatory gender diversities, underrepresented users and regional communities.

We realize the quality and value brought by Education and Digital literacy programs with Wikimedia Education partnerships with institutions that emphasize on training the education staff with the methodologies for teaching and counter-studying how the educational communities in Chile use digital tools and platforms in their teaching. These learning experiences can be helpful in building the momentum of the overall Wikimedia Education programs in Chile and the broader movement.

We look forward to seeing the sustainable alliances Wikimedia Chile is planning in the Institutional Alliances program to develop new partnerships in GLAM and Education initiatives. The shared Metrics are projected to drop from last year especially in newly registered participants which seems fair considering outreach work has been restricted and reduced due to the pandemic. The budget for the current proposal of Wikimedia Chile reflects well-managed growth in the areas of organizational management and capacity building.

We approve the increase in budget for the increase in the staff hours from 0.5FTE to 0.75 FTE for the Community manager and Communication manager in the hope of strengthening the organization’s capacity to support the community growth and your advocacy initiatives. We are looking forward to working with Wikimedia Chile in 2021 and see your work unfold this year.
