Grants talk:TPS/Flixtey/SOTM Africa 17/Report

Report accepted[edit]

Dear Flixtey,

Thank you for submitting this report. I really appreciate your description of how you used this event to build a community of shared values at the intersection of the Wikimedia movement and the Open Street Maps community. This kind of active networking and community building work is what we hope to see from participants funded through TPS.

I don't personally have expertise about the process of forming a User Group. Are you in touch with Wikimedia Foundation staff who can support the volunteers in Uganda who are working on this initiative? If not, I can try to connect you.

I am accepting this report now, and counting the linked documents pertaining to a User Group in Uganda as your outcome.

Warm regards,

Hi Marti (WMF), thanks for accepting my report.
I have put the team in touch with Asaf Bartov and Jack Rabah at WMF to support them on this journey. I however advice against they applying immediately as it will be best to be groomed towards putting a solid community together, which I am currently volunteering to do with the support of other foundation staff. However once I am sure they are good to be by themselves, I will support and present documents of their request to become a user group. --Flixtey (talk) 22:40, 28 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Hello Marti (WMF), just a quick update on what the forming group in Uganda. As rightly mentioned my meeting with them have sparked some activity in the country. The team is hosting Wiki Loves Monument as discussed in my meeting with them, about to start the Luganda TWL Branch and I am happy to say that more is yet to come as I closely watch and support the team where I can. Excited to share more updates as things unfold --Flixtey (talk) 22:54, 7 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
