Relationship to Education Program[edit]

Hi Sage - thanks for submitting this request! The event and workshop sound really interesting. I've got a question about the Education Program component, because you've been working with WMF folks in the Education Program in the past: To what extent is the Education Program component of your engagement at this conference associated with WMF work? Or, to be blunt: why isn't WMF's EP funding you to go? Siko (WMF) (talk) 16:39, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

It's not associated with it, except that it's an area I obviously know a lot about and it's an area that's relevant for the conference attendees. But my role in the Global Education Program (and the teams focus in general, at this point) is not at all focused on recruiting professors; aside from the continued strategic focus on the Arabic programs, the WMF team is no longer directly going to be involved with the US or other specific education programs. The History of Science Society has been trying to get me to do a general Wikipedia workshop for a few years now, and this is the first year that the scheduling worked out for me. The education program will come into it because it's a relevant part of a general Wikipedia workshop, as I think it would be to any outreach involving academic societies at this point.--Ragesoss (talk) 22:23, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for clarifying! :-) Siko (WMF) (talk) 22:42, 11 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]
