Question[edit]

Hello Rjain and Rahul, do you already have an idea of the type of extension you would like to code during the session? It can impact a lot the success of your session. thanks --Charles Andrès (WMCH) 16:35, 1 May 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Thank you for posting. Since this is a beginners workshop we are bound to some skill-set, so we would not be coding something that the audience finds hard to comprehend. Instead we plan on building simple extensions that may not necessarily be useful, but covers some of the key concepts of MediaWiki Extension Development. I and Richa have decided to code 2 extensions during our session.
  1. A Simple "HelloUser" Extension - This extension provides a welcome message "Hello Charles" when you login and open the special page.
  2. A Theme Change Extension - To swap between 2 themes. This extension will involve a little CSS too.

Request funded for one participant[edit]

Dear Rahul and Richa:

Thank very much for each of your thoughtful requests and your contributions to Mediawiki. After reviewing your requests, the committee has decided to fund only one of the 2 requests. We’re offering support to the person who appears to be primary session-proposer, Richa Jain.

We have made this decision based on the following criteria, which are explained on the Travel and Participation Support page:

  1. Investment: It seems unlikely that there would be enough impact to justify a total of $5000 funding for two people to travel internationally to lead this one session. We hope that with several other Wikimedians already planning to attend this event, there will be enough volunteers on-hand to assist Richa on the day of the session.

Meanwhile, we appreciate both your ongoing participation and work on the Wikimedia projects.

Some loss due to different exchange rates followed[edit]

Hi, Since the exchange rate followed on the US Visa fees is 1 USD = 65 INR. In this regard, I got around 1000 INR lesser than the actual amount I paid for the visa fees. We may concern this issue after the completion of the event when I will submit my report and document the expenses. --Rjain (talk) 16:48, 9 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for confirming receipt of funds wired to cover the US Visa cost, Richa. We will be able to reimburse you for the Visa fee paid above the actual deposit received that was allotted for the Visa cost, after submitting your report and WMF accepting it. On your report, please remember to include this in the expenses section and provide documentation to participation(_AT_)wikimedia.org verifying the final amount that was actually funded into your account, along with the receipt/s for your visa expenses. -- Sincerely, Jtud (WMF) (talk) 01:13, 11 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
