Question about your budget[edit]

Hello, Susanna. Thank you for the request and apologies for our delay in reviewing it. We are excited to support your work.

  1. We will approve this request, and are simply working on determining the final amount we can approve.
  2. We will unfortunately not be able to disburse these funds in advance in this case, so we would also like you to confirm that you are still able to attend even without receiving funds in advance.

Regarding your budget, we are happy to fund your flight up to the new price of EUR 304 you quoted today. Since the conference is three days long, we will fund your accommodation for up to 4 nights, or up to EUR 200. We will also cover your participation fee of approximately EUR 93.

Would you please offer some details about what type or airport transportation is included in this quote? For example, are you including transportation from your home to the airport in Helsinki as well as from the airport in Birmingham from the hotel (and return costs for each)? If so, what mode of transport are the EUR 10 quotes based on? We don't think this price is unreasonable, but would simply like a better idea of where this quote is coming from before approving this cost.

This is good news!

I understand that you cannot disburse in this schedule, and I will look for ways to cover for it in another way. I will attend.

I am sorry that you cannot cover the costs for the Hackday. The information for it is not prominently displayed on the conference website and I did not make proper note of it. Here is a link to the information.[1] In earlier occasions, such as the State of the Map US, the post-conference Hackday has been a fruitful occasion to do hands-on development for the Open Historical Map project. I have already registered for the event.

I will be able to meet the 200 + 304 budget by taking a flight + hotel package for 5 days, if that would be possible.

For the airport transportation, I had overestimated the cost. I am planning to take the bus from my home to the airport, and public transportation in Birmingham. Checking the costs in more detail I can correct the Helsinki bus single to 6.30€ [2] and Birmingham train single to £2.40–3.40 (4€) [3], totalling 20.60€.

Please update budget in your request[edit]

Thank you for the additional information, and we're also relieved that you will be able to attend the conference even without advance disbursement.

  1. We'll fund the Hackday if you think it's a valuable of your participation, or the total requested hotel budget of EUR 250. Indeed, we did not understand why you were requesting the additional night when we first reviewed the request.
  2. Thanks for the update about the airport transport. This seems very frugal and we will approve it. Would you be able to update the budget in your proposal accordingly?
