Karavali Wikimedians/Events/Wikimedia Refresher Training(WRT)

Wikimedia Refresher Training (WRT) is a one-day program tailored for existing Karavali Wikipedians. It aims to enlighten participants on tools, advanced editing, and more. This session marks the first training for local Karavali Wikimedians since the post-COVID period.

Deliberations[edit]

Dr. Vishwanatha Badikana, President of Karavali Wikimedia User Group, invited the trainer and all participants, welcomed them, and provided an explanation of the initiation refresher training for existing Wikimedians. Subsequently, he initiated a brainstorming session.
Bharathesha provided a comprehensive overview of the activities conducted by the Centre for Internet and Society's Access to Knowledge (CIS A2K) initiative, with a specific focus on its involvement in Kannada and Tulu Wiki projects.
Mr.Anoop Rao, Admin of Kannada Wikipedia has briefed about the following topics in the session –
Administrative Tools
General Overview of Tools Available for Admin.
User Rights Management which allows users with advanced permissions to assign and revoke various user rights.
Translating system messages using Translatewiki.net
How to use block and unblock tools which is used to prevent users from editing, either temporarily or permanently, to combat vandalism or disruptive behavior.
Usage of page protection that allows administrators to restrict editing of a particular page, preventing vandalism or edit wars.
Edit Abuse filter tool which prevents certain types of edits or track specific patterns of behavior.
Site Notice a tool used for managing site-wide banners and notices.
Mass Messsage Tool used to send messages to multiple users simultaneously.
A popular JavaScript Wikipedia gadget that allows autoconfirmed users to have many extra options to assist them in common Wikipedia maintenance tasks and to help them deal with acts of vandalism or unconstructive edits i.e Twinkle.
Auto wiki browser , Java Wiki Browser, Changing User Name, Pywikibot, PAWS (Jupyter Notebooks), Phabricator, Gerrit and Wikisource editing and Formatting was discussed.
