What is happening in Let’s Connect this month[edit]

Welcome to June’s issue of the Let’s Connect monthly newsletter. May was a very packed month for various Let’s Connect Learning Clinics. We extend that to June as well as we continue with our learning clinics.

We also want to extend a big welcome to Jessica Stephenson as she joins us back from maternity leave.

What Learning Clinics can you start getting excited about?[edit]

  • Lets Connect Learning Clinic: Spotlight on Women’s Health in Wikimedia Projects on Friday, June 14th from 4-6pm UTC.

👉 What is this Learning Clinic for?

  • To Initiate the mapping of existing Wikimedia initiatives related to Women's Health.
  • To deepen participants' understanding of the importance of Women's Health topic, including Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, and of ongoing efforts within the Wikimedia ecosystem.
  • To explore the potential for establishing a permanent Wikimedia community of practice focused on Women's Health topics

Let’s Connect June Connectathon[edit]

Let's Connect monthly Connectathon happens every first Friday of the month. It is an opportunity for all Let's Connect participants to understand what is going on with our members and the Wikimedia movement and how we can help answer some of your questions about Let's Connect.

The session is on "Celebrations around the world in June" and will happen on June 7, 2024.

This session will be held via Zoom, and here is the link.

NB: All Lets Connect participants have been sent calendar invites to RSVP for this Connectathon. Please accept our Google calendar invites from now to receive them.

News from Movement Strategy[edit]

The ratification voting will be managed by a Charter Election Commission (CEC) appointed by the Movement Charter Drafting Committee (MCDC). This voting will be organized in accordance to these two documents:

The voting period to ratify the Wikimedia Movement Charter will happen from June 25 - July 9, 2024.

Story from Let’s Connect[edit]

Greetings from the Let’s Connect Team!!! This month’s story is about our extensive outreach for the Let’s Connect program around March - April 2024.

During this time period, the team members reached out to 70+ organized groups of Wikimedians, 15+ independent organizations - movement partners and notable Wiki figures around the world, over emails, talkpages and virtual interactions. This outreach not only helped us to spread more awareness about the structure and purpose of the program but also in gathering insights on the impact of the program in past months along with identifying a few topics of impacts in the movement. As it is popularly said, “Success is not only in the effort, but in the realization of a goal or destination.” We also started focusing on the requests we had received around the topics of impact/interests during our outreach journey, and accordingly, the May-June learning clinics are continuing.

Another exciting part of this journey was the in-person participation in the ESEAP conference 2024. At the last ESEAP Conference in Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, Let's Connect was introduced to the community through a presentation by our working group member cum ESEAP liaison Anthony Diaz. The participants received it well as they actively participated in an activity where they drafted a learning clinic, including the title and its objectives. It was a lively way of looking around creative ideas and never to be bothered with technicalities as long as they felt the particular learning session benefited respective communities.


One interesting suggestion among participants is to have a session on accounting funds received from the WMF, as we all need this particular skill in handling the different types of grants received. After the session, some members of the affiliates in the region took an interest in conducting their learning clinics. In the coming months, we'll expect additional participation from the ESEAP region and fantasti learning clinics from the affiliates.

It's also interesting to note that Anthony was able to meet one of the first Let's Connectors Pisces, from Vietnam. Gatherings such as this break the barrier of online meetings, making it possible for Wikimedians to connect not only virtually but also to talk physically and bridge the online gap.

After all, the essence of Let's Connect is for all of us to work collaboratively by any means, whether virtual or in-person.
