Wikipedia Education Program in Rajbiraj

Maithili Wikimedians have started Wikipedia Education Program in Rajbiraj, Nepal. One of the programs was held on 25, 27 and 28 January 2016 in Little Flower Secondary Boarding School at Rajbiraj, Saptari, Nepal. This program was held for 3 days about approx. of 130 minutes (3 teaching periods). There are three session of class about Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons with technical session to impart knowledge and skills for students to learn basis of Wikipedia and Wikimedia Commons as well share their knowledge too. The Grade:- 9 students were the participants of the first day (25 January 2016) of Wiki-Education Program being implement by the Wiki-trainers in this School. On the very next day (27 January 2016) Grade:-10 students were the participants for learning the same mentioned above. Next day, (28 January 2016) Grade:-9 & 10 Aggregate took part on the educational program. This program has followed the important components of the Wiki-Education Program basic curriculum using presentation, demonstration and workshop approach.

The students of class 9 were participated in this Wiki-Education Program. The students were learned about Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and other sister projects. There were 55 students rolled in the Wiki-educational class.

27 Stycznia 2016

The students of class 10 were participated in this Wiki Education Program. The students were learned about Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and other sister projects. There were 75 students rolled in the Wiki-educational class.

28 Stycznia 2016

The students of class 9 & 10 (Aggregate) were participated in this Wiki Education Program. The students were learned about Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and other sister projects. There were 125 students rolled in the Wiki-educational class.

Output & Outcome

The students as well teachers and professors who were attending the class learned about basic features, editing and creating an article on Maithili Wikipedia as well in other projects too. They created their accounts in Maithili Wikipedia (account creation logs); They also learned uploading images in the commons, created their user pages, and maintenance of some categories there. Students, teachers and Professors as well practice some basic editing in wikipedia and creating new articles on a topic they were interested in. It is felt that they had also understood the importance of Maithili Wikipedia in their learning process and acquire skills to contribute and benefit from sum of all knowledge in the wikipedia and its projects.

Notes

  • Create the awareness about Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons and other sister Projects, what it is, and the goals of the Wikimedia Foundation in building contents and other Wikimedia projects.
  • Increase participation of both men & women on Wikimedia Projects and involvement in community projects too.
  • Promote the contribution of local contents in the various languages of Wikimedia Projects.
