Meta talk:Babel/Archives/2003

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Hm. Talking about a meta page which discusses a meta project... Anyway. IMO Babel should eventually work in a similar way as the Village pump does on EnWikipedia except at a higher level. But for now concentrating on meta itself should be a good thing while we figure out just what to do with it. Once we get a good idea about that, then we can expand the focus of Babel to include general Wikimedia issues, point of contact coordination and whatnot (just like the Village pump). --Maveric149 08:23, 20 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Well, don't ever accuse me of thinking too big :) I like small and defined steps forward. First get the thing started, and take things from there. -- Cimon Avaro on a pogo stick 09:01, 20 Nov 2003 (UTC)
that was *just* what was missing Cimon, and you just put the finger on it :-) ant
I just wonder why this page is named Meta-Wikimedia:Babel not just Babel? I think it would be confuing to create subcategories. -- Taku 05:06, 24 Nov 2003 (UTC)
It is not a sub-category - it is the future meta namespace for meta. Just like Wikipedia has the Wikipedia:Namespace. --Maveric149 06:02, 24 Nov 2003 (UTC)

My very own branch

I would really like to create my own CVS branch of MediaWiki 1.3.x This way I can develop off this branch and then synch MediaWiki code base with my own as new bits are established stable. Could someone give me some pointers or direct me to some resources on this topic? Suggestions? Thanks.. Aaron This question is also posed on the talk page here

Clarify the intro

  1. What the intro "translate when and what you like by others" mean? So if I have time and feel like it, I translate the messages of others into what?! Chinese? Korean? English? Is the point of that message to make, theortically, every message to have translations in all the major world languages?
  2. By the way, that sentence looks really badly structured. It's very confusing. Somebody who knows what it means should improve it.

I would guess that it means, if you find something that you feel should be in another language, then translate it (i.e. if there is a question in french and you feel it pertains to everyone you might translate it to english) Dori | Talk 05:01, 30 Nov 2003 (UTC)

I guess the namespace thing is still not figured out because I see this page doesn't look like a talk page. Dori | Talk 04:58, 30 Nov 2003 (UTC)

Format messed up

The current format looks messed up to me (Mozilla 1.3 on linux). The greetings are showing up on top of the TOC. Anyone else see that?Dori | Talk 04:39, 14 Dec 2003 (UTC)

And it looked so nice in Konqueror... --mav

What is the point of <div style="float:right;margin-left:0.5em;width:300" above the multilingual intro? The div makes that table slide into the territory of the leftbar. They overlap (IE 5, Win 98). --Menchi 05:57, 14 Dec 2003 (UTC)

On my computer the greetings only take up the right 300 pixels of the screen, the TOC is on left and the content flows nicely below that. It looks like some br's are needed to assist less advanced browsers. --mav
That better? --mav
much better Dori | Talk 06:38, 14 Dec 2003 (UTC)
No overlapping now. --Menchi 07:39, 14 Dec 2003 (UTC)
