Post-conference Report for Wikimania 2023

Things learned at the conference

• Wikidata - As a Bikol Wikipedia editor, my contributions in Wikidata are mostly linking an article to its Wikidata item. In the conference, I learned a lot more about Wikidata from its structure (e.g. coding) to its application in the real world like cultural heritage mapping.
• Photowalks - It is my first time participating in photowalks organized by Wikimedia groups, since all of my photowalks before are self-initiative. I learned about how to organize one and how Wikimedia Commons can utilize the media files gathered from the events.

Things the participant contributed or participated in or since the conference

I attended talks in Wikimania 2023 which tackles about Wikidata, language preservation initiatives, cultural heritage mapping, and freedom of panorama. It is also my first time participating in an ESEAP Hub Meeting. I also participated in two photowalks namely the Singapore Photowalk by Commons Photographers User Group and the Johor Bahru Photowalk by Wikimedia Community User Group Malaysia.

Plans after the conference (from what was learned or contributed in the conference

After the conference, I am planning to utilize all my learnings in order to support my advocacies in the Wikimedia movement.

• Local language as learning resource - I am looking forward to contributing further to help the languages and dialects in my home region, the Bicol Region. Aside from Bikol Wikipedia, there is still Wikimedia Incubator for Rinconada Wikipedia and Bikol Wikisource in which I can also contribute.
• Cultural heritage preservation - I still need to study and plan on how I can link Wikipedia, Wikimedia Commons, and Wikidata to support this advocacy. This is to support the cultural heritage mapping initiatives in the Philippines.

Comments/ suggestions about the conference

Wikimania 2023 will always be a memorable event for me. Aside from the talks, meeting a lot of Wikimedians around the world is a great learning experience. The conference is well-planned from the venue up to the events. I thank PhilWiki Community for having me as one of the user group's representatives for the conference.
