Requests for new languages/Wikipedia Gorkha

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
submitted verification final decision
This proposal has been rejected.
This decision was taken by the language committee in accordance with the Language proposal policy based on the discussion on this page.

The closing committee member provided the following comment:

The request has been withdrawn by the initiator (1,2). -- The Gorkha language is Nepali written in Latin script, and no special ISO 639-3 code has been assigned to it. It is therefore not eligible. It could however be pursued via a script converter on the Nepali Wikipedia if the community so desires. --MF-W 14:30, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support as Gorkha (Gurkhas) are spread all over the world, Every one knows about Gurkha regiment which is well-known of its bravery. The Gokha community comprises all Nepali speaking people and other Bhutia, lepcha, Sherpa people who also are known as Gurkha people. Nepali traditionally written in Devanagari script and which is not known to all Nepali speaking people. for example in Bhutan only Latin and Zonkha script is taught in schools, the Gorkha of Bhutan who speak (Nepali) don't have learning facility of Devanagari script so are compelled to write Gorkha language in Latin script. Most of countries except India and Nepal have same problem as in Bhutan. About 30 m people speak this language. Due to the writing problem in Devanagari which has matraas, hrasva & Dirgha most of young people write this language in Latin script. In fact Gorkha language[1] is Nepali language, Nepali language is recognized by Indian government by including it into 8th schedule. Here my request is to provide ISO 639-2 for Latin based Nepali language (Gorkha). it will be Just like simple english wikipediaia for non-Devanagarian Nepali(Gorkha) people. If this project is opened Millions of people will be able to get knowledge from this project.Bhawani (talk) 14:36, 30 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
