Steward requests/Permissions

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki
This is an archived version of this page, as edited by Anthere (talk | contribs) at 04:54, 28 May 2004 (→‎Removal of access). It may differ significantly from the current version.

For Wiktionary requests - please use Requests for Wiktionary permissions.

This is a central page to request permissions for sysop status, bureaucrat status or bot status on one of the Wikimedia projects, where no local means exist to do so yet.

If your Wikipedia has a request for adminship page and a bureaucrat (a bureaucrat is able to make people sysop on the local wiki), please use your local page. If not, use this page.

For urgent access (to combat ongoing large-scale vandalism), you may ask on the IRC channels #mediawiki or #wikipedia on irc.freenode.net (users angela, anthere or engels).

When you make your request, please mention your language code, and create a page on your wiki if it does not exist yet with:

  • a list of admins and bureaucrats on your wiki,
  • a link to this page
  • the conditions needed to become a sysop and the discussions (approval or disapproval) about a new candidate (larger wikis only)

Requests for Bot status

To register a bot, please mention its name and the wiki local wiki on which it will work here.

Warning : for some big wikipedias, such as en:, you will need to specifically request an authorization over there. See en:Wikipedia talk:Bots for approval by a sysop.

Removal of access

Self-deadminship, or removal of bot flags from your bot can be requested here, and will be granted immediately. You may be asked to prove you are the same user on meta as on your local wiki first.

To request the removal of sysop access from another user, please gain consensus on this on your own wiki first. All discussion must be kept on your local wiki. When it is finished and there is a community consensus to desysop a user, a trusted person from that wiki should just provide a link here to the discussion and a very brief explanation of what the results of that were.

  • Hi, I was wondering - is there any chance to get developer access only to Lithuanian Wikipedia - to update languageLt.php file, and do other maintenance stuff.

    • This is not something stewards can deal with. You can upload that file to meta so a developer can deal with it, or email it to one of them. You can ask on wikitech-l about getting developer access as it would have to be a developer that gives you this. Angela 13:14, 24 May 2004 (UTC)[reply]
  • Hi, can I become a bureaucreat on the newly created aromanian wikipedia (http://roa-rup.wikipedia.org/)? I was the one that requested the launch of this, translated some of the interface, builded the main page, and wrote articles. I also translated the logo. --Danutz.
You could first become a sysop before being a bureaucrat. I went to the wiki in question, and found no account of user with your name. Why so ? Also, there have been perhaps 20 edits on this wiki in total, and only 2 articles. I suppose you are the anonymous user ? I suggest that you begin by creating an account before being made a sysop. If a sysop is necessary beforehand, I guess Srtxg might be made one. Anthere
