Rodovid/name

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

Untitled

[edit]

This page is designed to propose and discuss the possible names for a family tree wiki and the advantages/disadvantages of each.

My suggestions would be: WikiGenea (pronounced wiki-genie; I like this one), WikiTree, or FamilyWiki (not so sure about this one). Saccerzd 09:39, 27 March 2006 (UTC)'[reply]

Rodovid

[edit]

The word Rodovid is the English version of the Ukranian word родовід which means Ancestry/Pedigree. Several people have commented on the lack of the wiki prefix, dicuss.

I like Rodovid. Sounds great, unusual.--70.91.185.178 01:54, 15 July 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Don't like it and not a lot of people will make the link to a family tree site based on wiki. Carsrac (talk) 21:46, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose Oppose there is not even the most famous 4-letter word in it  Klaas `Z4␟` V09:02, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikigenes

[edit]

Good for DNA discussions, but family is more then only genes. Carsrac (talk) 21:46, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Oppose Oppose Indeed; would confuse quite a few people  Klaas `Z4␟` V09:00, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

WikiGenea

[edit]

I would prefer this over wikigenes Saccerzd 21:49, 30 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I agree with Saccerzd. Carsrac (talk) 21:46, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Support Support with lowercase g I'd prefer; like Wikitree, but seems taken unfortunately.  Klaas `Z4␟` V08:52, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

GeneaWiki

[edit]

I love the sound of it! Ruilopes 12:52, 13 June 2006 (GMT)

Not for a WMF project. Carsrac (talk) 21:46, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Oppose Oppose  Klaas `Z4␟` V09:05, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

FamilyWiki

[edit]

Better would be Wikifamily, but is confusing since normaly refers maximum to a father, mother and child.  Klaas `Z4␟` V09:08, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

WikiTree

[edit]

Site already exists at wikitree.org but a merge between the two sites is planned and this is the name that will be used.

Just to clarify, you're saying that Wikitree and Rodovid are in merger negotiations? Chadlupkes 14:29, 4 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Well, yes. Baya, creator of Rodovid is pro merge and virtualy all the users who have commented are too. The thing we're waiting for at the moment though is for Wikitree's creator Tjfulopp to comment: he doesn't visit the site much. Hopefully we should be able to sort out an IRC chat and sort it out then but its still in the planning stages.--Bjwebb 14:06, 12 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Name already taken, but maybe Carsrac (talk) 21:46, 11 April 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Since taken might be too complicated to acquire domain name my second choice  Klaas `Z4␟` V09:11, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikiplanet

[edit]

Name already taken. Oppose Oppose  Klaas `Z4␟` V09:12, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikipeople

[edit]

Would be a nice domain for Wikimedians; seems taken as well  Klaas `Z4␟` V09:16, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Wikicestry

[edit]

i don't like this name, it looks to much like it contains incest, which isn't something you want in a family tree site's name. Oppose Oppose  Klaas `Z4␟` V09:17, 7 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
