Launched in 2024 by Open Foundation West Africa (OFWA), the Shine Her Light Campaign is an annual initiative dedicated to bridging the gender content gap on Wikipedia. In commemoration of International Women’s Day, this campaign trains and empowers contributors to document the lives and achievements of notable African women, ensuring their legacies are preserved in the digital space.

The campaign’s inaugural edition in 2024 saw the creation of over 200 new articles and edits, marking a significant step toward gender equity in online knowledge representation. Building on this momentum, Shine Her Light 2025 continues the mission, fostering an inclusive digital landscape where African women’s contributions are visible and celebrated.
