"Spotlighting Nigerian Political Leaders Campaign – Towards a complete encyclopedia for Nigeria"

Spotlighting Nigerian Political Leaders Campaign is a campaign kick-started in May 2023 after the 2023 Nigeria general election to give better visibility to all elected leaders who emerged from the Nigeria election. The initiative is a Wikimedia campaign led by the Wikimedia UG Nigeria team.

Why we are doing this[edit]

After the 2023 Nigeria general election, several Wikimedia contents of Nigeria political leaders were empty and not created. So this initiative will help to bridge the gap and enhance the visibility of our national leaders on the internet.

For the past five years, Wikimedia UG Nigeria has been coordinating Wikimedia editors from Nigeria to contribute to Nigeria's topics on Wikimedia projects. We have successfully managed this and created partnerships with various institutions to expand the existing Free Knowledge project landscape, bringing us closer to overcoming the existing knowledge gaps in our leadership space on the internet. However, our evaluations have shown that we can do better in building better visibility designed for more long-term support and better integration of projects into the Wikimedia Movement.

This is why we are setting out on this national edit-a-thon contest campaign to create a proper spotlight on Nigeria leaders' topics.

With this endeavor, WUGN contributes to the implementation of the global Movement Strategy: on the one hand to increase the sustainability of the movement (recommendation #1) by investing in the people in the communities that work on new Free Knowledge projects, new knowledge forms and formats to address gaps in knowledge equity. On the other hand, this investment will strengthen the Movement's capacity for innovation (recommendation #8).

What we are working towards[edit]

The aim is to have a result driven success for SNPLC ready by the end of 2023.
