Thanks to the Education Portal on outreach for the templates and the general structure of the pages. --Iopensa (talk) 08:05, 24 April 2013 (UTC) Does it make any sense to have an Africa portal? I think it does for the following reasons. There is a tradition (good or bad) of African studies. A focus on Africa can allow to address people (researchers - in the broader sense, curators, NGOs managers) and institutions (GLAMs, grant-makers, research centers...) focussed on Africa, interested in Africa or based in Africa. In Africa Wikimedia is not wildly represented at a national level; maybe a continental and international approach can work better. The portal can help highlighting what is going on and it can facilitate contacts between people and institutions. It can be also a bridge among projects and initiatives. Meta can also be a space to facilitate translations and people and projects can be linked to different portals. Africa Portal/Wikimania 2015 eLearning Africa 2016 Conference submission extension Want to represent and share your work with Wikimedia at the 1tth annual pan-African conference for ICT for development, education and training conference? I've been notified by the organizers of the eLearning Africa Conference that submissions are still open to Wikimedia community members who wish to participate. This year's conference will be held in Cairo from May 24 - 26. If selected to present, Wikimedians could take advantage of the Travel and Participation Support (TPS) funds available through Community Resources. As the formal deadline has already passed, any proposals should be submitted as soon as possible. Tighe Flanagan (WMF) (talk) 19:40, 18 February 2016 (UTC) AfroCuration Mozambique The Moleskine Foundation is partnering with Ethale Publishing and others across Africa to implement its WikiAfrica Education initiative and increase the visibility of Africa on Wikipedia with the aim of creating an Emakhuwa Wikipedia. With support from the Wikimedia Foundation, There would be five AfroCuration (edit a thon) events to train young Africans to edit Wikipedia. All events will be united by the theme ‘Who We Are’. The first AfroCuration event in this series will take place on 1st and 2nd September in Mozambique, when Ethale Publishing will train a group of 60 volunteer Emakhuwa-language creators to pioneer the use of the Emakhuwa language on Wikipedia.
