Response to the wish

[edit]

@Prototyperspective Thank you for submitting your wish! We are working with internal stakeholders to figure out next steps, such as feasibility and prioritization. We’ll keep you posted about it. Sannita (WMF) (talk) 14:14, 27 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

We are looking into the feasibility here, so stay tuned for updates and for now marking this prioritized. MikeZ-WMF (talk) 12:10, 23 March 2026 (UTC)Reply
@Prototyperspective and anyone else following and interested: We have some questions/clarifications as we scope this:
  • Embedded in articles: Thanks for the screenshot to illustrate the point here. This covers the use case of an audio player for the whole article (i.e. Spoken Wikipedia), not the embedded audio player for sound clips selected by editors (e.g. part of a speech from a famous person), which is mostly what we're trying to scope in this wish. For the Spoken Wikipedia suggestions, we might leave these requests for the orthogonal W304. We'll coordinate with this team though.
  • Commons app issue: Thanks for flagging this Android issue. Is there anyone testing the beta iOS app who can flag whether this is also an issue? Then we can forward along.
  • QR code generation: This could be something that better aligns with W304 as well because it's specific to Spoken Wikipedia.
Generally we would like to scope this wish to update the audio player UI, which should include modern features such as proper skipping (also flagged in W306), while the Spoken Wikipedia ideas are covered by the Reader team's future work with W304. The wishes are still very much related and we'll coordinate with them. MikeZ-WMF (talk) 10:17, 15 May 2026 (UTC)Reply
