Itineraries WV does not want[edit]

See voy:Wikivoyage:Votes_for_deletion#Osogbo_to_Abeokuta_by_train. In general, a route that is just "X to Y by road/rail/air" does not qualify as a WV itinerary; itineraries are interesting only if they include things to do or see along the way. The simple road, rail, flight or ferry info goes in the "Get in" sections of destination articles. Pashley (talk) 08:08, 28 December 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • See voy:Africa itineraries for examples of the sort of thing that is wanted.
  • Mountains do not normally get articles, though there are exceptions like voy:Mount Kilimanjaro. I doubt any other African mountains would qualify as exceptions, but I might be wrong. Some African mountains are listed at voy:Volcanoes#Africa & it seems possible that list might be cautiously expanded by folk who know Africa better.
  • Mountain ranges generally do not get articles, but several important ones are exceptions; see voy:Alps voy:Himalayas & others. In Africa, the only one I know of that might qualify would be the w:Atlas Mountains. It seems possible an article might also be written for the w:Great Rift Valley.
  • Bodies of water generally do not get articles, but there are exceptions such as voy:Nile & voy:Lake Tanganyika. A few more African rivers — certainly the Congo, likely the Zambesi, perhaps others? — might qualify for articles along the lines of voy:Along the Yangtze River. • Creating a good article on a mountain range, a river or the rift valley would be a big job, probably needing multiple contributors,

  • An article on the w:African Great Lakes might be possible; we have voy:Great Lakes on the Great Lakes of North America. There are problems, though; I'm not sure if the African lakes are coherent enough as a destination to support an article. In N America, sailing the lakes is fairly common, there are good road & rail routes along both sides, there's only one border (US/Canada) involved & it is generally easy to cross. My impression is that none of those things would be true for the African lakes.
  • Perhaps it would work as section of a Rift Valley article, with a redirect from "African Great Lakes" to that section. Pashley (talk) 08:27, 9 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I've now created voy:Great Rift Valley but it could use other contributions. Pashley (talk) 22:53, 1 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
