Talk:Fundraising 2011/Alan Letter/de
Add topicWas the extensive editing from September 30 really necessary? I think the letter definitely has to be proofread again now. -- Zwaailicht 21:04, 3 October 2011 (UTC)
Don't know if it was necessary .. I'm new to this and simply tried to improve the translation. Sorry if I offended you. --Zibetkatze 06:22, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
You didn’t do anything wrong. I was referring to the editing from 09:40, 30 September 2011 by Ziko. -- Zwaailicht 06:45, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Okay, I see. Didn't know that there was still so much editing after me. I agree that the page was already fine and the extensive rewriting of some people was not quite necessary. Or simply "Haarspalterei". But my main concern here is: could you change referring to wikipedia as "mit DER Wikipedia", "in DER Wikipedia" and "DIE Wikipedia"? No one adds the article in German. It sounds really strange... I would always say "auf Wikipdia" or just use it without any article. "Wikipedia ist ..." --Zibetkatze 11:22, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
I absolutely agree with you, the article sounds awful. But there are many people using the article when referring to Wikipedia, I have heard and read it several times already (especially “Wikipedia geeks”, apparently). They are probably using it to make it sound like “die Enzyklopädie” or “das Lexikon”. Some sentences had the article and some didn’t (so it wasn’t my idea), so I just changed a few to make the text consistent. -- Zwaailicht 12:09, 4 October 2011 (UTC)
Important note from WMDE
[edit]Hi there, as you all probably know is that the campaign will be localized with GeoIP. Therefore every user in Germany no matter the language version will get to the landingpage of WMDE. Therefore we need to modify the language quite a little bit (e.g. it will be confusing if we talk about Wikimedia Foundation in the appeal while the donation goes to WMDE or Wikimedia Fördergesellschaft). I therefore prefer the naming Wikimedia in some cases. That does not mean that we should not never use the terms WMF or WMDE (e.g. WMF staffer) but we should reduce any possible confusion regarding the donation receiving organization if possible.
