Gender gap task force on enwiki[edit]

Hi Siko (WMF) and AWang (WMF), thank you so much for posting this.

I wanted to make you aware of the English Wikipedia's Gender gap task force. We're currently discussing how to apply for a Foundation grant to train a certain number of admins in gender-gap awareness, so that there are people with insight around to help close discussions that might affect the way women interact on enwiki. The discussion is here.

If you can help with advice about how to proceed, and how we can become involved with your initiative here, that would be much appreciated. SlimVirgin (talk) 22:13, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hi SlimVirgin, thanks for jumping in here. I just commented in that thread on enwiki, and we're looking forward to seeing your idea develop in IdeaLab. Meanwhile, in terms of getting involved here: please do join in! If interested in joining a team to help with piloting one of these initiatives (or even just thinking about joining an initiative team, or advising on a team, that's cool too), we'd love to have you sign up. Once we've collected some more people, the plan is to start figuring out what support the teams actually need in order to execute, and seeing how WMF can best help. Also great to see you spreading the word about this page :) Let's do more together...Siko (WMF) (talk) 23:02, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Note: I could see your admin-training project fitting into the "conferences and meetups" initiative quite well...perhaps that's the team to join and a spot to add your IdeaLab link when you've got a page started? Siko (WMF) (talk) 23:04, 23 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi Siko, I've posted an initial IdeaLab draft at Grants:IdeaLab/Gender-gap admin training. It's still very rough! I've also added my name to the toolkits team. Not sure where or how to include the IdeaLab link on that page just yet. SlimVirgin (talk) 19:07, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Hi SlimVirgin, great! I added your link to the list of ideas in the initiative description. Probably not a best final resting spot, but hopefully a good start for getting more eyes on it :) Siko (WMF) (talk) 20:29, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for doing that, Siko. SlimVirgin (talk) 21:47, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Work spaces for initiatives?[edit]

I added my name to one of the initiatives. There's already been some good work done in this area, more to be done of course, but when it comes to resources lists, this is a great start. I'm trying to figure out where to put it. The link doesn't belong in the initiative section, because I see that as the sign up area. Have you contemplated separate pages or subpages as working pages for each initiative, or some other structure?--Sphilbrick (talk) 16:31, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Glad you've signed up, Sphilbrick! I like your idea of subpage for initiatives to work in. Rather than creating each page empty, I'd rather see a working team create your own as you get started, and link to it from the initiative's section on this main page. In the case of the grantmaking campaign initiative, we've already got an existing page started in IdeaLab, so we're linking to that as the working hub for now. I imagine some initiatives will end up as collections of several different projects working together, though, and creating a subpage for each initiative to gather all resources and materials into a collective workspace seems like a great plan. Would you care to lead the way on this setup for your initiative? :) Siko (WMF) (talk) 17:36, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Done Well, done isn't the right work, just barely started is more appropriate.--Sphilbrick (talk) 20:56, 24 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Hello, Per our talk today. I want to offer Wikimedia LGBT's (and my) help to participate in gender gap strategy specially for the first and forth initiatives. We already had Feminist and Queer Art edit-a-thon. Also we are asking WMF board to enforce non-discrimination policy more actively in communities. I'm also willing to take action on this matter in WM LGBT and Persian Wikipedia. If you want to collaborate with WM LGBT please contact us. Amir (talk) 17:23, 13 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
