Scraper delete request

Please delete my scrapers from catalogs 7591 and 7598. They will probably never work correctly, so I use my own scraper written in Python and I update the catalogs by manual upload. Petr Matas (talk) 18:14, 22 January 2026 (UTC)

Deleting obsolete entries

Multiple possible types

I ran into this problem while trying to set the default type in catalog 7591 (KaraokeTexty.cz artists). These artists are either of type human (Q5) or musical group (Q215380), but before matching it is not possible to decide which one of the two. I tried to solve it by creating an encompassing type musical group, band, or musician (Q137826327), but I am afraid that it violates Wikidata ontology. I feel that each entry should mention all possible (unspecialized) types instead. Any ideas? Petr Matas (talk) 05:32, 26 January 2026 (UTC)

Coming from Wikidata:Property proposal/incompatible type, I changed the subclass to person or organization (Q106559804) and made the item a disjoint union of (P2738) of musical group (Q215380) and musician (Q639669), to avoid any ontological problems. --Volvox (talk) 20:35, 29 May 2026 (UTC)

I can see that the first three catalogs are not connected to any Wikidata property. As the creator of the catalogs, you should be able to use the catalog editor at https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/#/catalog_editor/7629. Petr Matas (talk) 05:14, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

Enable adding information how catalogs were compiled (so others can update them)

Only in a conversation with the catalog creator of the catalog about Linux distributions in DistroWatch did I find out that the catalog was compiled with this open source script: gitlab:matthiasm/wikidata-scripts/-/blob/main/dump/distrowatch.py.

What happens when a user leaves the project, or doesn't have nearly as much time to do Mix'n'Match catalog things, or dies, or gets banned etc?

People can't see how the catalog was compiled so they would have to start from scratch. Moreover, having to ask the user about it is not good in any case. This inhibits people to update outdated catalogs or improve them.

People who created the catalog may also forget how they built it or lose the associated data – most often it's best to attach the data directly to where it's needed and where it can be easily found again. Especially so in a large collaborative project.

Please enable users to add information about how catalog were built and about some other things like which data is still missing or could be useful or which challenges there are with updating the catalog etc. I think it would be best if a button was added into/next to where it says Imported by user Matthias M. | Refresh where this info can be added. Maybe it could get the text from a metawiki page which would enable changing it later on. Prototyperspective (talk) 22:54, 26 November 2025 (UTC)

When searching for catalogs, it shows individual items but not catalogs

For example, when searching "stack exchange", it shows lots and lots of items in various catalogs but doesn't first show catalogs with that in the name near the top (this one and one other). This means one often can't search for catalogs. Could this please be changed so it shows catalogs at the top and only afterwards items across catalogs that match the search terms? The default search field is not intended for searching for certain catalogs by name. On main page https://mix-n-match.toolforge.org/#/ is a (small) search field therefore (had the the same problem until I found it ;) Arch2all (talk) 16:25, 16 March 2026 (UTC)

How to import a MediaWiki catalog?

I want to import pages from a MediaWiki instance into a Mix'n'Match catalog, but I couldn't find anything in the documentation. There are several catalogs like ArchWiki (6365) or Gentoo Wiki article (6353) that were imported from MediaWiki instances, but I couldn't find any option for viewing the import options of those existing catalogs. I am afraid that there is no special support for data sources running MediaWiki. You can create a scraper to extract entries like from any other source. Petr Matas (talk) 00:37, 23 February 2026 (UTC)

Please link the specific catalog used in edit summaries

This would enable other users to better understand the edit and maybe help out. It would make the catalogs better discoverable and improve transparency and understandability as well as help reduce misunderstandings and confusion (eg when one tries to search for the catalog and finds another one assuming that was the one used). One could go to the catalog in just a click and see stats or contribute.

Currently, edits made with the tool only have the Mix'n'Match tag (example) but no link to the particular catalog. Prototyperspective (talk) 19:42, 23 March 2026 (UTC)

Recent changes cause failure

Within the last day or two the look and layout of Mix'n'match has changed considerably and within the pat 24 hrs the tool appears to no longer work. Current issues include:

• the source catalog is not displayed;
• the buttons to create a new item for Not matched entries are absent; only "Set Q" and "N/A"
• For Preliminarily matched and Not matched entries alike, the "Confirm" and "Set Q" buttons do not actually add the new corresponding identifier to the Wikidata item, even as Mix'n'match shows them as matched.

New errors?

For the last few days this tool has again been non-functional. A query brings up potential matches, but it is impossible for me to confirm, create new items, or remove pre-matched items. Red error messages include Cannot read properties of null (reading 'getUserName') and Something went wrong: Cannot read properties of null (reading 'is_logged_in'). Ability to exclude the scholarly works from matches and searches?

Is there any way to exclude scholarly works from the suggested matches? They tend to clutter the whole corpus of most of the catalogues that I am working on, and really slow down the work -- especially when the catalogue has a mix of types of items. Sadads (talk) 02:09, 22 July 2026 (UTC)
