Talk:Requests for comment/Flagged revisions should display latest versions

From Meta, a Wikimedia project coordination wiki

I realize that I might not meet the requirements at Requests for comment/Policy. If you feel like I need to meet requirements first, I can launch this discussion again later once I meet the requirements. Otherwise, another user can feel free to adopt my proposal.

However, most RfCs are about dispute resolution, while this is neutral, non-politically related comment about cross-wiki MediaWiki configuration tweaks to improve community health across multiple projects. I am not involved with any disputes at any Wikimedia projects, so you can exempt me from some of the guidelines if you feel that it's fine.

Another solution is to discuss this at the Wikimedia Forum while this page is incubated as a user subpage or draft. Voltairacus (talk) 21:07, 6 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

First, thank you for effort. Nothing goes forward if nobody tries to fix the known problems and it is not a problem if the method is not perfect. --Zache (talk) 01:44, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Table from Zache[edit]

@Voltairacus: Here is the updated table. I changed the PendingLag information to PendingLag average as it is collected for all of the wikis and I think that the data is good. Also queue length is now exact numbers. If pending changes queue length is under 200 then single person can reviewe all of the pending changes in a day (=not a problem) --Zache (talk) 04:42, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Zache: Thank you! Could you also include Bosnian, Macedonian, and Classical Chinese, which are missing? Voltairacus (talk) 05:09, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
The table appears to show that the Indonesian Wikipedia may need the most improvement. What is your analysis of the data? Voltairacus (talk) 05:14, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
I added Bosnian, Macedonian, and Classical Chinese. However, I was not able to find Macedonian and Classical Chinese from InitialiseSettings.php or flaggedrevs.php so I do not know what their configuration is OR where they are configured. Based on original requests however, Macedonian FlaggedRes settings would be that autoconfirmed can patrol (= patrol approve revisions). If it is still so it would explain how it works. My analysis for wikis which are using show stable by default the most problematic is Indonesian Wikipedia and Albanian is next. If Classical Chinese is using stable by default then it's settings should be changed too. I would change the settings from stable by default to latest by default AND would make much aggressive autopromote like dewiki's config or even lower so that autoconfirmed users can review so FR could be viable anti-vandalism tool. --Zache (talk) 08:57, 7 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Zache: Excellent, this is a good analysis. Voltairacus (talk) 08:08, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Have you notified community members on relevant Wikipedias?[edit]

@Voltairacus: Have you notified Wikipedia communities which are using Flagged revisions that there is RfC on meta? Huwiki and bswiki found this, but i think that generally local communities doesn't follow the Meta.wikimedia.org's RfC-pages and you need to write to their community portal pages to get some attention. --Zache (talk) 09:16, 8 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

@Zache: Thank you, I will notify all 9 wikis. I do not purposefully intend to annoy them. Voltairacus (talk) 08:07, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
@Zache: All 9 Wikipedias that are the main subjects of the discussion have been notified. I have notified the Finnish Wikipedia too. Voltairacus (talk) 08:30, 9 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
