Talk:Training modules/Documentation

Sweet, docs!

User:JSutherland (WMF): There's also now a simpler option for slides: instead of creating both a .json page and a content page, you can now just create a content page and link it from the slides index, like this:

Here, it will take the id and slug from the last part of the page title, making it less tedious to put together a new module. The 'Wikipedia Essentials' module (see Training modules/dashboard/slides) has been converted to use this format. The json format will also continue to work, though.--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 22:11, 1 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

@Sage (Wiki Ed): Nice! That's much simpler :) I'll add this to the documentation (and I guess just collapse the old instructions). This isn't totally "final" yet, so hopefully that'll work for implementing this. Joe Sutherland (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 22:44, 8 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Sage (Wiki Ed): So are those id numbers in the slides themselves necessary? I'm guessing that's how they're done. How does that impact slide order? Joe Sutherland (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 00:23, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
User:JSutherland (WMF): Slide id numbers at the beginning of the subpage name are necessary; they are arbitrary, except that every slide in the system must have a unique id. Order is completely determined by the module .json pages, though, so you can reorder slides in a module without moving any pages.--Sage (Wiki Ed) (talk) 18:29, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hey Sage (Wiki Ed): I wrote this up as a new section here. See what you think, and lemme know if I misrepresent the process. Joe Sutherland (Wikimedia Foundation) (talk) 08:05, 20 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
