For those that can't make it...

[edit]

I'm interested in this workshop, but at the moment I'm unsure whether I'll be able to make the times. I can see that there is a user limit of 10-15 for the Webex session, but from my experience with Webex, you should be able to also use the in-built Webex Recorder to record the session. Does Wikimedia Webex have this feature? If so, I think it would be great to enable this for the workshop as it will be invaluable for new admins/users who would like to know about the tool and also for those that are unable to attend the workshop. Uploading it with any of the new help pages for Translate Extension would be a good idea, especially if we are going to be making use of this for all future translations.

Also, the 'translation reviewer' user group - how is this currently used on Translate Wiki? Is it assigned to users who have demonstrated a high level of proficiency in the language? We would need to look into how this will be assigned for meta, either for all auto-confirmed users, for just translation admins or to also have it as a separate group (as some of the discussion at suggests.

I will try to record, but I have bad experiences with it. --Siebrand 23:53, 12 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Let's not discuss the translation reviewer role here... --Siebrand 00:08, 13 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
Hmm, fair enough, that's something for another place.. :) The Helpful One 14:16, 13 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

A basic question

[edit]

It is difficult for me to identify what tools are part of the "Translation tools" and what existed prior to the installation of this extension.

For instance, the templates that create the multilingual sidebar on the Translation page -- this is not part of the extension, correct? Is there another way to accomplish a sidebar like this, that is more up to date?

If it doesn't already exist somewhere, it would be nice to create a short list that would help a new translator identify when they are dealing with tools associated with the extension, and when they are dealing with an older system. -Pete F 14:04, 23 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

see mw:Help:Extension:Translate for complete documentation. Per next Monday, small ? icons will directly link to this documentation. Those are live on translatewiki: already. Siebrand 14:01, 24 January 2012 (UTC)Reply

Workshop over

[edit]

The workshop is over. Many thanks to the attendees, and the attendeed that asked questions in particular. I've downloaded the recording, and will try to get it converted to an open format; if that will not work, I'll make the ARF file available anyway...

Is there a need for another of these workshops? If so, please indicate this here, and if there are enough people in need for it, I can organise another one. --Siebrand 21:24, 28 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
